Alvera PureWipe CPAP Equipment Cleaning Wipes — 120 Wipe Tub
£9.99
This item
Alvera PureWipe is a pre-moistened wipe for the daily cleaning of CPAP equipment: mask cushions and frames, air tubing, humidifier chambers and the outside of the device. The wipes contain no alcohol, so they do not dry out or degrade silicone, and they leave no residue, so nothing needs rinsing before the equipment goes back on.
Each tub holds 120 wipes and dispenses through the lid one at a time. The formula is unscented, contains no latex, and carries aloe vera extract and vitamin E. Made by Elarix Medical.

How to use them safely
Why wipes rather than soap and waterThe reason CPAP equipment gets cleaned is not dirt in the ordinary sense. It is the film of skin oil and sweat that builds on a mask cushion overnight, which softens the silicone seal, breaks the vacuum and starts the leak that wakes people at three in the morning. That film forms every single night, so the cleaning that controls it has to happen every single night. In practice the barrier is friction: a sink, warm water, mild soap, a rinse and somewhere to dry adds up to something most people skip when they are tired, and a cushion cleaned twice a week is a cushion that leaks.
A wipe removes that barrier. It sits by the bed, takes ten seconds, needs no sink and no drying rack, and because the formula leaves no residue there is no rinse step to skip. That is the whole argument for wipes, and it is a strong one: the cleaning method people actually perform beats the better method they do not. Aloe vera extract and vitamin E are there because the cushion sits against facial skin, so anything left on the silicone is in contact with the face for hours.
Two limits are worth being straight about. These are cleaning wipes, not a disinfectant, so they lift soil and oils rather than making any antimicrobial claim, and they do not take the place of the periodic wash in warm soapy water that mask and device manufacturers set out for the chamber, tubing and frame. And a wipe cannot reach inside the length of air tubing, which needs a brush or a soak. The sensible pattern is wipes daily on the cushion and the surfaces that touch skin, with the fuller clean on its usual weekly cycle.
