Dentra Extraction Forceps Fig 76 Upper Roots, English Pattern
£9.99
This item
Walker Electronics QC Ultrasonic Cleaner Water Bath
£79.99
Dentra Fig 76 is an English pattern extraction forceps for the remaining roots of upper teeth. Root removal is a different task from removing a whole tooth. There is no crown to grip, the fragment often sits at or below the gingival margin, and the operator has to seat the beaks onto what is left and expand the socket around it. Fig 76 is shaped for exactly that: long fine beaks that reach a retained root, cross serrated faces that hold a small target without slipping, and a working end narrow enough to be driven between root and socket wall rather than resting on top of it.
Supplied non-sterile, sterilise before use
Fig 76 is the upper root pattern, used on retained roots and root fragments in the maxilla on either side. It follows elevation rather than replacing it: a root is usually mobilised with an elevator or luxator first, and the forceps then takes the grip and delivers it.
The beak geometry is the point of the instrument. Long, narrow, cross serrated faces let the operator reach a fragment that a general upper pattern cannot seat on, and the serrations grip enamel-free dentine and cementum which are smoother and less forgiving than a crown. The same design applies apical pressure that expands the socket as the beaks are seated, which is what loosens a root rather than shearing it.
The pattern is commonly listed in instrument catalogues as the Read design, and it is produced in narrower variants for smaller roots and fragments. This listing is the standard Fig 76.
Specification limited to what is confirmed
Overall length, beak width, joint type and the exact steel grade are not stated here pending confirmation against the production record and material certificate, and should not be assumed from the description above. Narrow and small beak variants of this figure exist in the wider instrument range and are not offered under this reference. Ask before ordering if any of these details is needed.
| Stage | Action |
|---|---|
| Before first use | Remove all packaging, decontaminate and sterilise |
| Point of use | Keep the instrument moist after use so blood and debris do not dry into the serrations and the joint |
| Cleaning | Process per the practice decontamination policy, with the joint opened fully so the hinge is reached |
| Inspection | Check beak alignment and tip integrity closely, since fine beaks show damage sooner than molar patterns |
| Lubrication | Apply instrument lubricant to the joint where the local policy requires it |
| Sterilisation | Steam sterilise per the validated cycle for the load, with the instrument in the open position |
| Storage | Store dry and protected, keeping the fine beak tips clear of contact with heavier instruments |
| Withdrawal | Remove from service on any sign of corrosion, cracking, beak splay or a slack joint |
The above is general guidance. The practice decontamination policy and current national guidance on decontamination in primary care dental practices take precedence.
Dentra is the dental instrument range from Elarix Medical. Extraction forceps are supplied by figure number across the English and American patterns, alongside orthodontic pliers and cutters and prosthodontic measuring instruments. Every item is individually referenced and barcoded, so a repeat order is placed against a code rather than a description.
