Mindray RM Respiratory Mechanics Module, Part 6800-30-50488, Pre-owned

The RM module is Mindray's respiratory mechanics parameter module, part number 6800-30-50488, built on Artema technology. It slots into the module rack of a Mindray modular monitor and adds respiratory mechanics monitoring to a bedside that already has the usual haemodynamic parameters, so the ventilated patient can be assessed from the monitor rather than only from the ventilator screen.

Respiratory mechanics is the measurement of the pressures, flows and volumes at the airway, and of what those figures say about the lung and about the machine breathing for it. It is the difference between knowing that a ventilator is delivering a set tidal volume and knowing what pressure it is taking to deliver it. In theatre and in intensive care that distinction is what shows a tube kinking, a bronchospasm developing, a circuit leak or a lung becoming stiffer, often before any other parameter on the monitor moves.

Mindray fit this module to the DPM6 and DPM7, and to the BeneView T5, T6, T8 and T9. It is a parameter module, not a standalone device: it has no screen and no controls of its own, and it does nothing until it is seated in a host monitor that recognises it. That is worth being plain about, because a module bought for a monitor with no vacant slot, or for a monitor outside that list, cannot be used.

Buying the module separately is the normal route for a department that already owns the monitors. A modular platform is designed to be extended, so adding respiratory mechanics to an existing BeneView costs the price of a module rather than the price of a monitor, and the module moves between beds as the case mix changes. Elarix Medical confirms the module is read by a monitor before dispatch, and states the parameters it displays in writing.
