Daray X200 LED Flexible Medical Examination Light
£429.99
This item
The Daray X200 is a general examination light for consultation and diagnosis, built around a three LED head on a flexible gooseneck with a pivot base. It gives 32,000 lux at half a metre with a colour rendering index of 95, which is what makes skin tones read naturally rather than washed out or yellowed.
This unit is pre-owned. The X200 head is common to every mount in the range, and the mount supplied with this particular light is confirmed before dispatch, since it decides where the light can be fitted.
Checked before dispatch
These are in-house workshop checks. Damaged or non-working items are not dispatched. No engineer service or electrical safety certificate is included. Electrical safety testing and ongoing maintenance under PUWER 1998 remain with the organisation operating the equipment.
Before it is fitted and used
Every examination light quotes a lux figure, and lux alone says very little about whether the clinician can see what matters. A bright light with poor colour rendering flattens the differences that clinical examination depends on: the distinction between erythema and normal skin, between a cyanotic lip and a cold one, between healthy granulation tissue and slough in a wound bed. The X200 records a colour rendering index of 95 and an R9 value of 88, R9 being the specific measure of deep red reproduction, which is the part of the spectrum that carries skin, blood and mucosa. That combination is why the light is specified for consultation rooms rather than as a general work lamp.
The other half of the argument is what the light does not do. The head emits no infrared, so the temperature rise in the light field stays at or below 2 degrees C, which matters when the beam sits over the same area of skin for several minutes during a procedure. The head is fully enclosed and finished with an antimicrobial coating on the painted surfaces, so it can be wiped down between patients without dust collecting in vents. And the LED engine is rated beyond 50,000 hours, so there is no lamp to source and change, which on a halogen light is both a running cost and an interruption.
Two limits are worth stating. It is a general examination light: intense, well rendered and directional, but not a surgical light and not designed to eliminate shadow across a cavity. And the gooseneck, which is what makes it easy to position by hand, is also what distinguishes the X200 from the spring balanced articulated arm on the X240. A gooseneck is positioned by bending it, so somebody who wants to reposition a light repeatedly across a wide arc through the day may prefer the articulated version.
Specification limited to what is confirmed
| Code | Mount |
|---|---|
| X200LW | Wall bracket |
| X200LR | Rail clamp, for a wall mounted medical rail |
| X200LD | Desk clamp |
| X200LDS | Weighted desk stand |
| X200LFDM | Fixed desk mount |
| X200LM | Mobile base on five castors |
| XRAIL | One metre medical rail, with wall fixings, for the rail clamp version |
The light head is common to all of these, so a unit can be moved to a different mount later by buying the mount alone.
| Task | Interval |
|---|---|
| Wipe the head, arm and base with an approved disinfectant | Between patients |
| Check the arm holds position and the head rotates freely | Weekly |

Use cleaning products compatible with the coated finish, and avoid solvents, which damage the surface the antimicrobial coating sits on.
