The Oxford Switch is a manual active stand aid for sit-to-stand transfers and short repositioning moves with people who retain some weight-bearing ability. Because it is non-powered there is no battery to charge, no charger to lose and no actuator to service, which is what makes it practical in a home or a busy care setting where a powered stand aid spends half its life on charge. The quick-split feature separates the unit into a 5.5 kg frame and a 10.5 kg base, so it goes into a car boot and up a domestic staircase in two manageable lifts. Safe working load is 180 kg, overall width 550 mm and turning radius 760 mm, which keeps it usable in a small bathroom or a ward bay.

Suitable only for people with weight-bearing ability
- The Switch is an active stand aid. The person being transferred must be able to bear weight through their legs and take an active part in standing. It is not suitable for anyone who is fully non-weight-bearing, and a passive hoist with a sling is the correct equipment in that case.
- Suitability should be established by a moving and handling assessment for the individual, not assumed from the safe working load alone.
- Set the knee pad to the individual before every transfer and confirm the feet are correctly placed on the footplate.
- The 180 kg safe working load covers the person together with anything carried during the transfer. Where components are combined, the lowest rating in the complete system governs.
- This is lifting equipment for lifting persons. In Great Britain it requires a thorough examination by a competent person at least every six months under LOLER 1998, with a current report held before the equipment is used.

- Frame and base checked for damage, distortion and secure connection at the quick-split joint.
- Knee pad adjustment, handles, footplate and castors checked for free movement and secure fixing.
- Brakes checked.
These are in-house workshop checks. Damaged or non-working items are not dispatched. A full engineer service, load test and thorough examination are not included unless this listing states that the unit has been serviced. Ongoing inspection and six monthly thorough examination remain with the operating organisation once the equipment is in service.
