ArjoHuntleigh Tempo Mobile Patient Hoist with Battery and Hand Control, Pre-owned

The Tempo is ArjoHuntleigh's mobile passive floor hoist, the heavy duty frame used where a patient has to be lifted clear of a bed, a chair or the floor in a sling rather than supported while standing. The mast and jib are powered and the chassis legs open to clear a chair or a wheelchair, so the lift is taken by the hoist and the attendant positions rather than bears the load. It was built for ward, nursing home and community use and the lifting capacity puts it in bariatric territory rather than general purpose.

Load figures depend on what is fitted at the top. With Arjo slings the Tempo is rated at 190 kg, rising to 200 kg with the extra extra large sling and with the standard four point spreader bar. Where the 200 mm extended jib is fitted the rating drops to 130 kg, which is the figure to work to if that jib is on the unit. Slings are colour coded by size, from brown for extra small through to white for extra extra large, and Arjo are explicit that only slings designed for the Tempo are to be used on it.

Control is from a wireless handset rated IP67, with a duplicate switch panel on the mast so the hoist can be driven from the frame if the handset is mislaid or flat. A red emergency stop cuts powered motion and a green reset restores it. For a total electrical failure there is a wind down facility reached with an internal Allen key under the mast top cover, which lowers the jib about 6 mm per full turn, so a patient can be brought down without power.

This unit is supplied pre-owned with its battery and hand control. The battery on a used hoist is the part that determines whether the machine is usable on arrival, and a lead acid pack that has sat discharged holds very little. Elarix Medical will state the battery condition and the charge it holds in writing before dispatch, and stocks Arjo batteries and chargers separately for the hoists they fit. Arjo quote an expected operational life of ten years for the Tempo where it has been serviced and maintained, so the service history matters more on this machine than the hours on the frame.

Features

  • Powered mast and jib with an opening chassis, so the legs clear a chair or wheelchair and close to pass a doorway.
  • Wireless hand control rated IP67, with a duplicate switch panel on the mast for parallel operation.
  • Red emergency stop and green reset on the mast.
  • Wind down facility reached with an internal Allen key, which lowers the jib about 6 mm per full turn in the event of an electrical failure.
  • Four point spreader bar taking Arjo colour coded slings, brown for extra small through to white for extra extra large.
  • Rated 190 kg with Arjo slings and 200 kg with the extra extra large sling and the standard four point spreader bar.
  • Removable 24 V lead acid battery pack, so a charged pack can be swapped in while the other is on charge.
  • Arjo quote an expected operational life of ten years where the hoist is serviced and maintained.

Points to note before ordering

  • Thorough examination before use. The Tempo lifts people, so in a workplace setting it falls under LOLER 1998 and PUWER 1998, with thorough examination by a competent person at least every six months, weekly function checks and a daily check of battery charge.
  • Arjo slings only. Arjo state that only slings designed for the Tempo are to be fitted. No sling is included with this hoist.
  • Battery. Supplied with its battery, pre-owned. A lead acid pack on a used hoist may hold limited charge. Elarix Medical will state the battery condition before dispatch, and stocks Arjo batteries and chargers separately.
  • Jib configuration affects the rating. Where the 200 mm extended jib is fitted the safe working load is 130 kg rather than 190 kg.
  • Pre-owned condition. Marks to the paint and wear to the castors consistent with service use. Elarix Medical will photograph the actual unit on request.
