The Labcold RLDF0510A is a 150 litre under counter pharmacy refrigerator running the IntelliCold controller, built for cold chain storage of vaccines and pharmaceuticals at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius. It is the cabinet a GP practice, a community pharmacy, a dental surgery or a vaccination clinic puts under the bench where stock has to be held inside the band set out in the Department of Health Green Book, and where the temperature has to be evidenced rather than assumed.

The difference between a pharmacy refrigerator and a domestic one is the control and the record, not the box. Cooling here is fan assisted, which keeps the air temperature even from the top shelf to the bottom instead of stratifying, and defrost runs off cycle so the chamber is not warmed to clear ice. The IntelliCold controller shows real time air temperature with minimum and maximum recorded, and logs temperature automatically around the clock, with the log downloaded to an SD card. That is what turns the daily temperature check from a handwritten note into a retrievable record.

Alarms cover the three failure modes that actually spoil stock: temperature out of band high or low, door left open, and mains failure. The controller and the alarms carry battery backup, so a power cut is logged and announced rather than passing unnoticed overnight. The door is solid and self closing with a key lock and two keys, and Labcold offer a digital lock as an alternative where keys are a problem in a shared clinical area.

Physically it is 600 mm wide by 600 mm deep and 835 mm high, so it fits a standard under bench run, with 690 by 480 by 410 mm of internal space across three height adjustable shelves. It draws 95 W at 230 V. The refrigerant is ammonia free and an internal LED light is fitted, which a pharmacy cabinet needs and a Sparkfree laboratory cabinet deliberately does not have.

Points to note before ordering

Not for blood, and not a domestic substitute. This is a pharmacy and vaccine cabinet for 2 to 8 degrees Celsius. Blood for transfusion requires a dedicated blood bank refrigerator to a different specification.
SD card. The logging function writes to an SD card. No card is included with this unit.
Calibration. No calibration certificate is supplied. Where a traceable record is required, the cabinet is to be validated against a calibrated reference on installation.
Siting. Clearance is needed around the cabinet for the condenser to shed heat, and the unit is to be allowed to settle at set point before stock is loaded.
Pre-owned condition. Marks to the casing consistent with service use. Elarix Medical will run the cabinet down to set point and photograph the actual unit on request.
