BD Alaris neXus CC Syringe Pump, Pre-Owned 2022 Unit with Guardrails and Online Pressure Monitoring
The BD Alaris neXus CC is a precision syringe pump for controlled delivery of fluids, medications, parenteral nutrition and blood products across adult, paediatric and neonatal populations. It takes 5 ml to 50 ml Luer lock syringes and runs flow rate, volume over time, dose calculation and preconfigured protocol modes. Its defining capability is online pressure monitoring: SMART detection identifies whether a pressure sensing disc extension set or a standard set is fitted, giving early occlusion detection and reducing post-occlusion bolus risk. Guardrails hard and soft limits operate against institution-defined thresholds without needing a permanent network connection. This unit is dated 2022.

- For use by qualified clinical personnel only.
- Only approved three-piece Luer lock syringes should be used. Syringe brand and barrel geometry directly affect delivery accuracy, and using a syringe outside the approved range can produce a dosing error.
- The Guardrails drug library is institution-specific. The receiving organisation must load and verify its own dataset and profiles before clinical use, rather than relying on whatever dataset is present on a pre-owned unit.
Key features
Online pressure monitoring with SMART detection of pressure disc or standard extension sets, across 11 configurable levels from L0 to L10, 50 to 1000 mmHg, for early occlusion detection.
BACK OFF function releasing pressure built up behind an occlusion, which limits the bolus delivered when the line clears. On a neonatal or vasoactive infusion this is the difference between a nuisance alarm and a clinical event.
FAST START taking up mechanical slack between the drive mechanism and the syringe plunger at the start of an infusion, cutting start-up delay at low flow rates.
Guardrails safety limits with configurable hard and soft alerts against institution-defined thresholds, working without a permanent network connection.
Drug library to 3,000 setups across 30 profiles, so a single fleet configuration can cover adult, paediatric, neonatal and theatre areas.
Multiple programming modes covering flow rate, volume over time, dose calculation, loading dose, KVO and VTBI with Stop, KVO or Continue end options.
Additional dose units including kcal and mEq alongside standard units, which matters for parenteral nutrition.
Wi-Fi connectivity for automatic transmission of infusion data to hospital clinical information systems through the Alaris Communication Engine.
Gateway Workstation compatible for organised multi-pump working at the bedside.
MRI Capsule compatible, supporting continuity of intravenous therapy during imaging.
Internal NiMH battery giving up to 6 hours at 5.0 ml/h and recharging to 90 per cent in 2.5 hours, charging automatically on AC power.

IP32 rated, protected against solid objects above 2.5 mm and water spray up to 15 degrees from vertical, rising to IP33 with the AC power cable retainer kit.
Flow rate accuracy of plus or minus 2 per cent at 25 ml/h, tested to IEC 60601-2-24.

Battery condition. The internal NiMH pack is pre-owned. Usable capacity in any rechargeable cell falls with age and cycle count, so the runtime achieved will be below the 6 hour figure quoted for a fresh pack and cannot be stated for this unit. Where mains independence matters, budget for a fresh battery pack at first service.
Condition and history. A pre-owned unit from clinical service, cleaned and inspected. Cosmetic marking consistent with previous use should be expected. Ongoing maintenance should follow the operating organisation's medical device management policy and the duties under PUWER 1998.
