Resmed 6ft SlimLine 15mm CPAP Hose with free Tubing Elbow
£19.99
This item
SlimLine tubing is ResMed's narrow bore hose, 15 mm rather than the standard 19 mm, and it exists to solve one specific problem: tube drag. A standard hose is heavy enough that when the wearer turns over, its weight pulls on the mask, breaks the seal and produces a leak that wakes them. SlimLine is lighter, thinner and far more flexible, so the tube follows the head instead of anchoring it. This pack pairs the 1.83 m SlimLine tube with the Air10 tubing elbow, the adapter that connects a non-heated tube to the machine at a right angle. On an Air10 machine that elbow is not optional if the standard or slimline hose is being used in place of a heated tube, and it is the part most often missing when someone switches back from heated tubing.

Set the tube type on the machine
Machines compensate for the resistance of the tube fitted, and a 15 mm tube behaves differently from a 19 mm one. After changing hose type, set the tube option on the machine to SlimLine so the pressure delivered at the mask is correct. Leaving the machine set for a standard tube while running SlimLine means the therapy is not being delivered as prescribed. The setting is in the device options menu, and the service responsible for the individual's care can confirm it.
What the elbow is for
The Air10 tubing elbow connects a non-heated standard or slim tube to the machine at a right angle. Two things follow. The tube leaves the machine downward rather than straight out, which takes the strain off the connection and stops the hose being levered against the outlet every time the wearer moves. It also routes the hose toward the bed more naturally, so it is not forced into a bend the moment it leaves the device. The elbow ships as standard with AirSense 10 and AirCurve 10 devices, and it is also compatible with most machines from other manufacturers, so it is the item worth having when the original has been mislaid.
The narrower bore is the whole point, and it is a trade rather than a straight upgrade.
What is gained. Considerably less weight and bulk, and far more flexibility. Less mass hanging off the mask means fewer seal breaks when the wearer turns, which matters most for lightweight interfaces such as nasal pillows where a small pull is enough to unseat the cushion. It also packs smaller, which makes it the practical choice for travel with a full size machine.
What is traded. A narrower tube has higher resistance, which is why the machine setting has to match. Some wearers also find a thin hose rustles more against bedding than a heavier one.
What has not changed. Neither tube is heated. If rainout is the problem, meaning condensation in the hose and water reaching the mask, a heated tube is the answer rather than a change of bore.

|---|---|---|
| Wash | Wash in warm water with a mild detergent, working the water through the full length | Weekly |

The above is general guidance for a single user. The instructions supplied with the machine and with the tube take precedence. Do not use a dishwasher, washing machine, bleach, alcohol-based cleaners or scented oils on CPAP tubing.
