The Schuco 120 is a radiofrequency electrosurgical generator for minor and medium surgery, offering pure cut, blend, forced coagulation, soft coagulation and, with an adapter, bipolar coagulation. It is the unit widely used in minor operations rooms, dermatology and podiatry clinics, where one generator has to cover cutting, haemostasis and lesion work.
This listing is for the generator only. The complete pack is normally supplied with a reusable handle with finger switches, a footswitch, a 2 m power lead, a steel neutral electrode of 120 x 160 mm, a cable for a disposable neutral plate, an assorted pack of 10 electrodes of 5 cm and the user manual. None of that is supplied here, and the unit is pre-owned. It suits a buyer who already holds compatible accessories, or who is buying a second generator to sit alongside an existing set.

Not usable on a patient as supplied
- Monopolar output requires a compatible handpiece, active electrode and patient plate with its cable. None are supplied here, and the unit is not fit for clinical use until they are fitted.
- Before any clinical use, output accuracy and the plate circuit monitoring are verified by a qualified engineer against a test load, and the unit passes electrical safety testing.
- Plate contact monitoring depends on the correct type of neutral electrode being fitted. A plate that does not match the monitoring the generator expects removes a safety function the operator may assume is working.
- Electrosurgery is carried out only by clinicians trained in its use, under local policy covering implanted electronic devices, alcohol based skin preparation, oxygen enriched atmospheres and surgical smoke.
What the generator does and why machine only matters
An electrosurgical generator turns mains power into a high frequency current that cuts and coagulates tissue through the electrode rather than by heat conducted from a hot tip. That distinction is the point of the technology. A pure cut waveform parts tissue with very little lateral thermal spread, so a specimen taken for histopathology arrives at the laboratory readable rather than charred. Adding coagulation into the same waveform gives a blend that cuts through a dry field, which is what makes larger excisions practical in a treatment room. Forced coagulation sears superficially for surface lesions, and soft coagulation drives deeper without carbonising, which is what seals a bleeding vessel.
In monopolar mode the current has to leave the patient somewhere, and that somewhere is the patient plate. The plate is not an accessory in the ordinary sense: it is half the circuit, and a plate that is poorly sited, partly lifted or of the wrong type concentrates the return current into a small area of skin. That is the mechanism behind return electrode burns, and it is why this generator monitors the plate circuit continuously and why the split plate design exists. A buyer taking a machine-only unit is therefore taking one half of a system, and the half being supplied is the half that cannot cause harm on its own.
The trade-off is straightforward and worth stating plainly. Machine only is the right purchase for a clinic that already runs Schuco 120 units and holds handpieces, plates and leads in stock, or for a service holding a spare generator against a breakdown. It is the wrong purchase for anyone setting up minor surgery from scratch, because the accessories then have to be sourced separately and will usually cost more assembled piecemeal than a complete pack. It is also the wrong purchase where bipolar work is the main requirement, since bipolar on this unit depends on an adapter and forceps that are not supplied, and it is not a substitute for a dedicated bipolar generator in a theatre setting.
