Siderails, mattress fit and entrapment risk

Bed rails only reduce risk when the rail, the bed frame and the mattress are dimensionally compatible. A mattress that is too thin, too soft at the edges or too small for the deck leaves gaps at the rail, within the rail and between rail and mattress that a patient can become trapped in. Check the effective rail height above the compressed mattress surface and check every gap against current national guidance on the safe use of bed rails, and reassess whenever the mattress is changed, including any move to a dynamic or overlay surface. Bed rails are not appropriate for every patient and their use should follow an individual risk assessment rather than a routine default.

Delivery and access

• This bed weighs 144 kg and measures approximately 200 cm along the sleep deck. Measure every access point on the route before ordering, including external doors, internal doorways, corridor turns, stair widths and lift dimensions.
• Dimensions given are approximate and should be treated as a guide for access planning rather than exact figures.
• Delivery is to ground floor only and the bed is supplied fully assembled. It cannot be carried upstairs or dismantled for delivery.
• Two people should be available to receive the item. A clear path from the delivery vehicle to the room is required.
• Return shipping is at the buyer's expense and any delivery fee paid is non-refundable.
