What the iQ adds over a standard ward bed

iQ Contour. When the backrest flattens, the leg section lowers in small steps rather than all at once. That keeps the patient in position on the mattress instead of letting them slide down the bed, which is what generates shear at the sacrum and drives pressure damage. It is the single most useful thing on the bed and it happens without anyone pressing anything extra.

Auto regressing backrest. The deck moves as the backrest rises rather than dragging the patient up the bed, reducing shear and abdominal compression.

Cardiac chair. Pressing auto contour and tilt within five seconds of each other profiles the bed into a seated position with foot down tilt, so a patient can sit properly without leaving the bed.

Two handsets with lockout. The carer handset controls everything and can lower the platform to 340 mm. The patient handset is deliberately limited to 420 mm and above, so an unsupervised patient cannot put the bed into the low zone, and any function locked out on the carer handset is locked out on theirs.

Electrical CPR. One button levels, flattens and lowers the platform, then drives it to maximum height for chest compressions, overriding any locked out functions. Manual CPR handles on both sides drop the backrest faster still.

Seventeen of these cells can be set to an alternating cycle, shifting every so often in order to further prevent the pressure sore development. These alternating cycles can be set to 5, 10, 15, 20, or 25 minute intervals.

Yes, the Drive Simple Mattress comes included with a multi-stretch PU cover to protect the foam mattress underneath. The cover is water resistant and vapour permeable for incontinent patients, and has a 360° zip for easy removal and cleaning.

How Easy Is Disinfection?

Thanks to the 360° zip, the outer cover is easy to remove and clean. Once removed, wipe the cover thoroughly using single-use wipes with water and a 0.1% chlorine solution.

How Do I Launder the Mattress?

When the mattress itself needs to be cleaned, make sure that all covers are completely removed, then launder as follows:

• Pre wash: 80°C for 15 minutes
• Main wash: 80°C for 15 minutes
