The Arjo Sara Stedy is a non-powered stand and transfer aid that lets a single carer help a patient rise from sitting and move a short distance. The patient stands on the platform holding the central frame, the seat paddles fold down behind them to take their weight in a semi-sitting position, and the carer moves the unit to a bed, chair, toilet or basin.

The Sara Stedy keeps the patient working. A wheelchair transfer asks nothing of the patient and a hoist takes over the movement, whereas the Sara Stedy asks them to stand and hold on, which maintains leg strength and confidence while the frame makes it safe for the carer to support them. By redistributing the patient's weight onto the frame, it reduces the force the carer has to apply and with it the risk of carer injury. The transfer happens face to face at eye level, which matters for communication and dignity during toileting and personal care.

Low friction castors make the unit easy to steer, and two rear brakes hold it still while the patient stands and sits. The safe working load is 182 kg.

Important notice

Patient selection. The Sara Stedy is for patients who can bear weight through their legs, hold the frame and rise from sitting with support. It is not suitable for a patient who cannot stand, cannot hold on, or cannot follow simple instruction, and for them a hoist is the appropriate equipment. It is a transfer aid for short distances within a room or area, not a walking aid and not a means of transporting a patient along corridors or between floors. Selection is a clinical decision recorded in the patient's moving and handling assessment.

Safe use of the leg spreader and brakes. Open the legs before approaching the chair or commode, position the unit, then apply both rear brakes before the patient stands. The patient places both feet on the platform before the seat paddles are lowered, and the paddles are raised only once the patient is standing securely. Close the legs again before moving through a doorway. Move slowly on level floors, avoid thresholds, slopes and uneven surfaces with a patient on board, and read the safe working load from this unit's own label before use.

Condition and inspection. This unit is pre-owned and supplied without a service history. Check the frame, platform, seat paddles, handles, leg spreader mechanism, castors and brakes for damage and correct operation before first use, and inspect routinely to the manufacturer's instructions and local policy thereafter. Duties under PUWER 1998 apply to equipment used at work. Clean between patients with a disinfectant compatible with the frame and grips.
