Rechargeable Battery 24 V 4 Ah for Arjo Patient Hoists, Reference NDA0100-20

A 24 V 4 Ah rechargeable battery for Arjo patient hoists, reference NDA0100-20. The battery is a valve-regulated lead-acid absorbent glass mat type, which is the standard chemistry for hoist packs: sealed, non-spillable, tolerant of being left permanently on charge, and safe to mount in any orientation. On a hoist the battery is the component that decides availability. A hoist with a flat or failed pack is a hoist out of service, and in a care setting that means a transfer is postponed or, worse, attempted by hand. Holding a serviceable spare is the cheapest way to keep a lifting programme running.

Check the reference before ordering

  • Hoist batteries are specific to the equipment they power. Check the reference on the existing pack against NDA0100-20 before ordering, and check the connector and the physical dimensions against the battery bay.
  • Fitting a pack of the wrong voltage, capacity or connector type risks damaging the hoist control system and can leave a hoist that appears charged but is not.
  • Charge only with a charger rated for this battery. Do not mix charging hardware across different pack types.
  • Do not open, puncture, short or incinerate the battery. Sealed lead-acid cells contain acid and can vent under abuse.
  • Dispose of the old pack through a battery recycling route. Lead-acid batteries must not go into general waste.

Confirmed compatibility

This reference is listed as fitting Arjo Sara Flex, Sara 3000 and Minstrel Single equipment. The same reference is also quoted as the battery specification for the Arjo Tenor bariatric hoist. Compatibility lists published by suppliers are not always exhaustive, so where the hoist model is not on the list above, check the reference printed on the existing battery rather than assuming the pack will not fit. Ask before ordering with the hoist model and the existing battery reference to hand.

Why hoist batteries fail before they look worn

A sealed lead-acid pack loses capacity gradually with age and cycle count, and it does so without any outward sign. The case looks identical at three years old and at three months. What changes is the number of lifts available from a full charge, and because that falls slowly, the decline is usually noticed only when a lift stops mid-transfer.

Two habits extend the life of a pack. Return the hoist to charge after every use rather than running it down, since lead-acid chemistry prefers shallow discharges to deep ones. And keep a second pack on rotation in any setting where the hoist is used daily, so one is always charged and the other is always available. Where a service depends on a hoist being ready at short notice, the cost of a spare pack is trivial against the cost of a postponed transfer.

Key points

24 V 4 Ah capacity, matching the specification quoted for this reference.
Valve-regulated lead-acid absorbent glass mat, sealed and non-spillable, safe to mount in any orientation and tolerant of standing on charge.
Reference NDA0100-20, so the pack is ordered against a code rather than a description.
Keeps a hoist in service, since a failed pack takes the whole unit out of use until it is renewed.
Suits a rotation, giving one pack on charge and one in use in settings where the hoist is needed daily.
Fits several Arjo hoist and stand aid models, subject to the compatibility check above.

Charging and care

Point Detail
Charge routine Follow the hoist manufacturer instructions. Most hoist packs are kept on charge whenever the hoist is not in use rather than run flat between charges.
Before each lift Check the battery indicator on the hoist. A lift should not be started on a low battery, because an emergency lower is not a substitute for a completed transfer.
Location Charge in a dry, ventilated area away from bathrooms and wet rooms, with the charger clear of walkways.
Rotation Where the hoist is in daily use, hold a second pack so one is always charged.
Ageing Note any fall in the number of lifts available from a full charge, which is the first sign a pack is nearing the end of its life.
Inspection Check the case for swelling, cracking or leakage, and the contacts for corrosion. Withdraw any pack showing these signs.
Disposal Dispose of used packs through a battery recycling route, never in general waste.
Hoist examination The hoist itself is lifting equipment for lifting persons and requires thorough examination by a competent person at least every six months under LOLER 1998.

The above is general guidance. The manufacturer instructions for the hoist and the battery take precedence.
