The Arjo Alenti is a battery-powered, height-adjustable lift hygiene chair for bathing, showering, toileting and other hygiene routines. It lets a single carer collect a resident from the bedside or a wheelchair and take them directly into the bath and back again, with the resident seated securely on the chair throughout. It uses its own anatomical seat, backrest and safety belt rather than a sling.

The value of the Alenti lies in the transfers it removes. A conventional bathing routine moves a resident from bed to chair, chair to hoist, hoist to bath and back through the same sequence, and every one of those moves is a fall risk for the resident and a manual handling task for the carer. On the Alenti the resident sits down once at the bedside and stays seated until they are returned, clean and dressed, to their room. Fewer transfers means fewer opportunities for a fall and a calmer experience for a resident who may find bathing distressing.

The seat is moulded in one piece of polyurethane, so there are no seams to trap water or soiling and it is straightforward to disinfect between residents. The backrest and safety belt can be moved to either side, allowing entry from either side of the bed, and the height is adjusted from a hand control so the carer can bring the resident to a safe working height rather than bending to them. Central brakes hold the chair still during transfers.

The Alenti operates as part of an integrated system with Arjo height-adjustable baths and shower cabinets, and a 590 mm lifting stroke takes the seat from 470 mm to 1070 mm. It is rated splash-proof to IPX4 for bathroom use and carries residents up to 182 kg. This unit is supplied with a brand new battery.

Important notice

A battery charger is needed and is not included. This unit is supplied with a brand new battery but without a charger. The battery arrives with whatever charge it holds from storage, and once it is discharged the lift cannot be raised or lowered until it is recharged, so a compatible Arjo charger must be obtained before the lift is put into daily use. Confirm the charger is available before purchase, and keep the battery charged when the lift is not in use. The emergency lowering function allows a resident to be brought down safely if the battery fails during a transfer.

Thorough examination before use. This is lifting equipment used to lift people. Where it is used at work, it is thoroughly examined by a competent person before first use and at least every six months thereafter under LOLER 1998, and after any repair. No report of thorough examination, service history or load test accompanies this unit. Electrical safety testing and a functional check through the full lifting stroke, the brakes, the emergency lowering and the emergency stop are carried out on receipt. Ongoing maintenance sits with the organisation operating the equipment under PUWER 1998.

Resident selection and safe use. The Alenti is for residents who can sit upright with support. It is not suitable for a resident who cannot maintain a sitting position, for whom a different lift is needed. Always fasten the safety belt before moving the chair, apply the central brakes during every transfer, and do not exceed the 182 kg safe working load stated on the unit's label. When lowering into a bath, remove the backrest and safety belt only as the instructions for use describe, and never leave a resident unattended on the chair.
