Dentra Fig 76 is an English pattern extraction forceps for the remaining roots of upper teeth. Root removal is a different task from removing a whole tooth. There is no crown to grip, the fragment often sits at or below the gingival margin, and the operator has to seat the beaks onto what is left and expand the socket around it. Fig 76 is shaped for exactly that: long fine beaks that reach a retained root, cross serrated faces that hold a small target without slipping, and a working end narrow enough to be driven between root and socket wall rather than resting on top of it.

Where Fig 76 is used
Fig 76 is the upper root pattern, used on retained roots and root fragments in the maxilla on either side. It follows elevation rather than replacing it: a root is usually mobilised with an elevator or luxator first, and the forceps then takes the grip and delivers it.
The beak geometry is the point of the instrument. Long, narrow, cross serrated faces let the operator reach a fragment that a general upper pattern cannot seat on, and the serrations grip enamel-free dentine and cementum which are smoother and less forgiving than a crown. The same design applies apical pressure that expands the socket as the beaks are seated, which is what loosens a root rather than shearing it.
