Fig 22 is a lower molar pattern in the English range, listed for lower molars either side. It sits alongside Fig 73 as the other Hawk's Bill lower molar option, and practices generally settle on one or the other by feel rather than by indication, since the working range overlaps.
The design logic is the same in both. Coming onto a mandibular molar from directly above puts the operator in a position to apply force down the long axis of the tooth, which is what expands the socket, rather than across it, which is what fractures crowns. The cross serrations hold the grip through that movement so the beaks do not migrate up the crown as pressure builds.
Where a tooth is heavily broken down, or where purchase in the furcation is preferred to purchase on the crown, a cow horn pattern is the alternative approach. Most trays carry both, and the choice is made at the chair rather than in advance.
