This is the reusable GE Healthcare cable that joins a single patient use temperature probe to a GE patient monitor, reference 165641, at 2.8 m. Disposable temperature probes are thrown away with the patient; the cable they plug into is not, and it is the part that stays on the monitor for years. Running disposable probes on a GE monitor means holding this cable, and holding a spare, because a unit with no cable cannot read temperature at all even with a drawer full of probes.

It takes the 400 series probe standard, the YSI 400 thermistor curve that most single patient use oesophageal, rectal, skin and foley probes are built to. The monitor end is the GE temperature connector, and the patient end accepts the probe plug, so the cable is the translation between a consumable from any 400 series supplier and the GE monitor in front of it.

Length is the reason this version exists alongside the shorter one. At 2.8 m the cable reaches from a wall mounted or boom mounted monitor down to a patient on a bed or a theatre table without being pulled taut, which is what causes a probe to lift off site or a connector to be stressed at the plug. GE also list the same cable at 1.3 m under reference 165640, which suits a monitor sitting on a trolley beside the patient. Choosing the wrong length is the most common reason one of these gets replaced early.

GE list compatibility across the current monitor range, including the B105, B125 and B155 bedside monitors and the CARESCAPE family, covering CARESCAPE Canvas, CARESCAPE One and the CARESCAPE B450, B650 and B850. It is supplied new, one per box.
