Welch Allyn Connex Spot Monitor on Mobile Stand with Power Supply and Accessories, Pre-Owned

The Welch Allyn Connex Spot Monitor is a spot-check vital signs device for wards, clinics and outpatient areas. This unit measures non-invasive blood pressure, oxygen saturation and pulse rate, and comes on a mobile stand with its power supply, cuff and hose, and SpO2 sensor. The Connex platform is built around workflow rather than measurement alone: readings can be captured against a patient record and sent onward, which removes the transcription step where observation errors usually enter the notes. A colour touchscreen and a rechargeable battery let the unit run through a round and return to the mains between uses.

Checked before dispatch

  • Cleaned and inspected.
  • Powered up and function tested across the fitted parameters.
  • Cuff, hose and sensor lead checked for splits, kinks and secure connection.
  • Stand, castors and mains lead visually inspected for damage.

These are in-house workshop checks. Damaged or non-working items are not dispatched. This item may require service and calibration. A full engineer service and calibration are not included unless this listing states that the unit has been serviced. Verification of measurement accuracy against local policy, planned maintenance and periodic electrical safety testing remain with the operating organisation once the device is in service.

Clinical use

  • For use by a qualified clinician. The device measures, records and displays. It does not make a diagnosis.
  • Blood pressure accuracy depends on cuff size. A cuff that is too small overestimates and one that is too large underestimates, so the cuff must be matched to the arm rather than to whatever is already on the machine.
  • Sensors must match the fitted oximetry module. Oximetry sensors are not interchangeable between module families and a mismatched sensor will not read correctly.
  • Any patient data held on a pre-owned device must be cleared and the unit configured to the receiving organisation's own settings and network policy before use.

Key features

Three parameters in one device, covering non-invasive blood pressure, oxygen saturation and pulse rate.
Colour touchscreen with a direct interface, which keeps training short across a rotating team.
Fast measurement cycle, so a full bay of observations is completed without the machine becoming the bottleneck.
Rechargeable battery with mains power supply, running through a round on battery and charging back between uses.
Mobile stand included, so the device moves between beds and bays rather than living on one worktop.
Data capture against a patient record with onward transfer to a clinical record system, removing the transcription step where observation errors enter the notes.
Wipe-clean housing, suited to decontamination between patients as part of routine infection control.
Modular Connex platform, so a unit can be specified with or without thermometry and with different oximetry technologies.
Built for continuous ward use rather than occasional clinic use, which is why these units are worth buying pre-owned.

Configuration and modules

The Connex Spot Monitor was supplied in several configurations. Oximetry was offered with more than one technology, thermometry was an option that is not fitted to every unit, and connectivity and printer options varied. Consumables are specific to the modules fitted. No model number or module set is stated here, and none should be assumed. Ask before ordering and the configuration will be confirmed from the device information screen and the rating label, so that cuffs, sensors and probe covers can be matched correctly from the outset.

Weight not stated

The approximate 4 kg figure in circulation for this model covers different configurations and does not distinguish the monitor from the monitor plus stand. No weight is given here. If it is needed before purchase, ask and the unit will be weighed as supplied.

Condition and history. A pre-owned unit from clinical service, cleaned and inspected. Cosmetic marking consistent with previous use should be expected. Ongoing maintenance should follow the operating organisation's medical device management policy and the duties under PUWER 1998. The photographs form part of the description and show the actual condition of the items offered.

Routine care guidance

Component Action Interval
Cuff and hose Inspect for splits, kinks and leaks, wipe down per local policy Between patients
SpO2 sensor Check the emitter and detector windows are clean and the cable is undamaged Between patients
Device and stand Wipe down per local policy, check castors and stand security Weekly
Battery Return to mains after use, note any fall in runtime After each use
Mains lead and plug Inspect for damage and strain at the entry point Weekly
Cuff sizing stock Confirm the full range of cuff sizes needed for the caseload is available Monthly
Accuracy verification and electrical safety test Engineer check against a calibrated reference Per local schedule

The above is general guidance. The manufacturer instructions for use and the operating organisation's medical device management policy take precedence. Any device giving readings that do not fit the clinical picture should be taken out of service and verified before further use.

Also in stock. For a different spot-check platform, see the SunTech CT40 vital signs monitor, which adds body temperature alongside blood pressure and oximetry.
