The ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet CPAP machine is an auto-titrating positive airway pressure device designed for nightly use in adults. It adjusts delivered pressure throughout the night in response to detected changes in breathing patterns, rather than delivering a fixed pressure set at the outset. This article explains what it is, how it works, what it includes and what a buyer needs to know before ordering.
Unlike a fixed-pressure CPAP device, the AirSense 10 AutoSet continuously monitors airflow and adjusts pressure within a clinician-prescribed range. When the device detects a change in breathing pattern, it responds by increasing or decreasing pressure incrementally. The result is that pressure is not held at its maximum value throughout the night, which many users find more comfortable than a fixed setting.
The device includes an integrated heated humidifier with a removable water chamber. Humidification reduces airway dryness during therapy. The level of humidification is adjustable. Without adequate humidification, some users experience rainout, which is condensation forming inside the tubing or interface. The water chamber is a consumable component and requires regular replacement according to the manufacturer schedule.
The AutoRamp feature starts therapy at a low, comfortable pressure at sleep onset and gradually increases to the prescribed therapeutic range. This is intended to make the transition into therapy less abrupt. The ramp duration and starting pressure are set by the prescribing clinician, not by the user.

The AirSense 10 AutoSet is compatible with standard 22 mm CPAP tubing and with ResMed ClimateLineAir heated tubing. Heated tubing helps manage rainout and works in conjunction with the Climate Control Auto feature when paired with a compatible HumidAir humidifier. Standard tubing is not heated and does not activate Climate Control Auto. Tubing is sold separately and is a consumable item.
The device is compatible with a wide range of CPAP mask interfaces, including nasal pillows, nasal masks and full face masks. The mask, cushion, headgear and seal are not included with the device and must be sourced separately. Mask compatibility should be confirmed before ordering, as cushion fit and interface design affect the quality of the seal and, therefore, therapy compliance. Ask before ordering if you are uncertain which interface type is appropriate.
The AirSense 10 AutoSet uses a disposable fine filter and, in some configurations, a reusable foam filter. Both are consumable items. The fine filter is single-use and must be replaced regularly. A blocked or saturated filter reduces airflow and affects device performance. Replacement filters are available separately.
The device records nightly usage data including hours of use, apnoea-hypopnoea index, mask leak and pressure statistics. Data is stored on a removable SD card. The SD card can be read by compatible software, such as ResMed AirView or ResMed myAir, to allow a clinician or sleep service to review compliance and therapy quality remotely. The SD card is typically included with the device but should be confirmed at point of purchase.
Most AirSense 10 AutoSet units include integrated wireless connectivity, allowing automatic upload of compliance data to the ResMed AirView platform when within range of a compatible network. Some regional variants do not include wireless. Confirm the variant specification before ordering if remote monitoring is a clinical requirement.
For patients in a funded therapy programme, compliance data is often a contractual requirement. The AirSense 10 AutoSet generates the reports that most UK sleep services and funding bodies require. The prescribing clinician or sleep service remains responsible for reviewing and acting on that data.
Cushions, water chambers and filters have defined replacement intervals specified in the ResMed user guide. Following the manufacturer schedule takes precedence over any general guidance provided here. Using worn or degraded consumables affects both comfort and the integrity of therapy delivery.
Any pre-owned AirSense 10 AutoSet should be decontaminated according to a documented protocol before use. The internal airpath components, including the humidifier chamber and tubing connections, must be inspected. Elarix Medical cleans and inspects pre-owned units before dispatch. That in-house process is not a full engineer service or calibration. Planned maintenance and periodic electrical safety testing remain with the operating organisation.
CPAP therapy in the UK is prescribed. The AirSense 10 AutoSet is a prescribed device. The pressure range, ramp settings and humidification settings are configured by a qualified clinician. The device should not be used or reconfigured without clinical oversight. A buyer sourcing a device independently must ensure that a prescriber is involved in setup and that the device settings match the individual's clinical requirements.
Confirm exactly what is included in any bundle before purchasing. The device unit, power supply, humidifier chamber and carry bag are sometimes bundled, but sometimes sold separately. The mask, tubing, headgear, cushion and filter are almost always excluded unless explicitly stated. Photographs form part of the description on any pre-owned listing: examine them carefully to identify what is shown.
Pre-owned units vary in hours of use, cosmetic condition and history. Ask for hours of use data, available from the SD card, before ordering a used device. A unit with high hours may be approaching a service interval. Damaged or non-working units are not dispatched by Elarix Medical. That said, an in-house function check is not a substitute for a full clinical commissioning process.
The ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet CPAP machine is a well-established auto-titrating device used in adult respiratory therapy programmes. It adjusts pressure throughout the night in response to breathing patterns, includes an integrated heated humidifier, records compliance data and supports wireless upload. The mask, tubing, headgear and filters are sold separately and are consumables with defined replacement schedules. Any pre-owned unit should be decontaminated and inspected before use, and settings must be configured under clinical supervision. Confirm exactly what is included before ordering, check that the device variant matches your connectivity requirements and verify that a prescriber is involved in setup and ongoing review.
