The ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet CPAP Machine is a widely used auto-titrating pressure device designed for nightly therapy in adults with obstructive sleep apnoea. Choosing the right unit, whether new or pre-owned, requires a clear understanding of the hardware, the included accessories and the ongoing consumable requirements. The sections below cover each of these areas in a plain, factual way.
Unlike a fixed-pressure CPAP, the AirSense 10 AutoSet adjusts its output pressure throughout the night in response to detected breathing patterns. It raises pressure when it detects flow limitation or apnoea events and lowers it once breathing stabilises. This means the prescribed pressure range, not a single fixed value, must be confirmed with the responsible clinician before use.
The device incorporates a heated humidifier with a removable water chamber. Humidification reduces airway dryness during therapy. The water chamber is a consumable item and must be replaced periodically. Rainout, condensation forming in the tubing, can occur if the ambient temperature is low. Heated tubing, sold separately as the ResMed ClimateLineAir, helps to reduce rainout but is not included with the base unit.
The AirSense 10 AutoSet records therapy data including usage hours, AHI estimates and leak data. This information is accessible via the myAir patient portal and SD card. Clinicians may use this data to review compliance and adjust prescribed settings. The SD card slot is on the rear of the device. Verify that the SD card is present if compliance data is required.

The unit has a compact footprint and a colour LCD screen. The screen displays pressure, usage time and basic therapy statistics. On a pre-owned unit, inspect the screen for cracks or dead pixels and the housing for cracks, discolouration or signs of impact. Cosmetic wear is normal on used devices but structural damage to the chassis is not acceptable.
The AirSense 10 AutoSet uses a fine filter located at the rear air inlet. This is a consumable item and must be replaced at the manufacturer-recommended interval, typically every month for the fine filter. A clogged filter restricts airflow and places additional load on the motor. On a pre-owned unit, confirm that a new filter has been fitted or that a replacement is available before first use.
A complete bundle from a supplier should include the main unit, the water chamber, the air tubing, the power supply and an air filter. If any of these items are absent, therapy cannot begin. Ask before ordering if the listing does not state each item explicitly. Photographs form part of the description on pre-owned listings and should be examined carefully.
The interface, comprising the mask cushion, frame and headgear, is never included with the device itself. Masks are prescribed on an individual basis. Heated tubing, a replacement water chamber and spare fine filters are consumable items available separately. The SD card may or may not be present; confirm this before ordering if compliance recording is a requirement.
The AirSense 10 AutoSet is compatible with standard 22 mm CPAP tubing and with ResMed's ClimateLineAir heated tube. Not all third-party tubing is compatible with the heated tube function. If heated humidification is required, verify tubing compatibility before purchase. The device is not compatible with accessories designed for the AirSense 11 platform.
A pre-owned AirSense 10 AutoSet offered for sale should have been cleaned and inspected before dispatch. At a minimum, this includes a visual check of the chassis, screen and air outlet port, a power-on function test, confirmation that the humidifier tray seats correctly and verification that the motor produces airflow within normal parameters. In-house workshop checks of this kind are not equivalent to a full engineer service and calibration. Planned maintenance and periodic electrical safety testing remain with the operating organisation.
The device records cumulative usage hours in its compliance data. On a pre-owned unit, this figure gives an indication of wear on the motor and blower assembly. A unit with a high number of recorded hours may require earlier serviced attention than one with low hours. Ask for the usage hour figure before ordering if this information matters to you.
Some pre-owned devices are offered after a factory reset, which clears therapy data but does not alter the underlying hardware state. Confirm with the supplier whether the unit has any recorded fault codes and whether these have been cleared or investigated. A unit described as function tested should have been powered on and confirmed to produce airflow; this is not the same as a calibrated pressure output check.
The ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet CPAP Machine is a capable auto-titrating device with integrated humidification and compliance data recording. When evaluating a unit, confirm the following before purchase.
