Edan SE-1200 Express 12 Channel ECG Recorder on Trolley with ECG Leads, Pre-owned

The SE-1200 Express is Edan's 12 channel resting electrocardiograph, supplied here on its trolley and with its ECG leads. It acquires all twelve leads simultaneously onto an 8 inch colour display, samples at 16,000 Hz through a 24 bit converter, and prints on a built in thermal recorder. Patient connections are defibrillation proof CF type, so the leads stay on during a shock.

A resting ECG machine is bought on three things, and the headline channel count is not one of them. The first is signal quality, and the figure that matters in a working clinical area is common mode rejection: at least 140 dB with the mains filter in, which is the machine's ability to ignore the 50 Hz hum radiating from every other thing plugged in around it. Combined with a 24 bit converter resolving to 2.52 microvolts and a frequency response from 0.01 to 300 Hz, that is what produces a diagnostic trace rather than a wavy line that has to be repeated.

The second is what happens on a difficult patient, and this is where the filter set earns its keep. Mains filtering at 50 or 60 Hz deals with the environment. The muscle filter at 25, 35 or 45 Hz deals with a patient who is shivering, restless or in pain. The drift filter, selectable from 0.01 up to 0.67 Hz, deals with a wandering baseline from breathing or movement. Sensitivity runs from 1.25 to 20 mm per millivolt with automatic gain control available, and paper speed from 5 to 50 mm per second, so a small complex can be opened up and a fast rhythm spread out.

The third is whether the report leaves the machine. This one outputs as PDF, XML, DICOM and SCP, over Wi-Fi, Ethernet or serial, and speaks DICOM Worklist and Storage, HL7 and GDT, so the trace reaches the patient record rather than living on paper in a drawer. On the trolley with its internal battery it runs a ward round without finding a socket: the larger pack is rated at 2.5 hours of printing or around 450 reports. Supplied pre-owned with the trolley and the ECG leads.

Points to note before ordering

Two builds share this model name. Edan supply an SE-1200 Express and a lower specified SE-1200 Express Basic, and the touch screen is an option rather than standard across the range. Elarix Medical confirms from the unit which build this is, whether the screen is a touch screen, and which battery pack is fitted, before dispatch.
Electrodes and paper are the running cost, not the leads. The patient cable is supplied, but disposable electrodes, reusable limb clamps and chest bulbs, and thermal recorder paper are consumables ordered as ongoing stock. Elarix Medical confirms what accompanies this unit and quotes a starting set.
Interpretation and memory capacity read from the unit. Measurement and interpretation are configurable options on this platform and the stored report capacity depends on the build, so neither is published here. Both are read from the unit and stated in writing before dispatch rather than taken from a brochure.
Battery condition on a pre-owned recorder. The internal lithium pack is the wear part, and a trolley mounted ECG that will not run off its battery loses the reason it is on a trolley. Elarix Medical confirms the pack charges and holds, and quotes a fresh one where the fitted pack has aged.
Pre-owned condition and commissioning. Marks consistent with clinical use. To be decontaminated to local policy, electrically safety tested, and function checked with a patient simulator so that lead integrity, gain and paper speed are verified, before clinical use.
