This is the short coiled lead that joins a Linak linear actuator to a Linak control box on battery operated couches, trolleys, tables and chairs. It carries the drive signal and power from the control box out to the motor that raises and lowers the section, so when this lead is damaged the actuator it feeds stops responding while the rest of the system continues to work normally.

On a powered couch the connector cables take more punishment than any other part of the electrical system. They flex every time the frame moves through its range, they sit close to the hinge lines where a section can close on them, and they are exposed to cleaning fluid and body fluid runoff. A lead that has been pinched, pulled at the plug or soaked tends to fail intermittently first, which shows up as a section that works when cold and stops when warm, or one that only moves when the cable is held in a certain position.

Because of that, swapping the connector cable is the cheapest and quickest way to begin fault finding on a section that has stopped moving. An actuator and a control box are both substantially more costly to replace, and a service engineer will normally rule out the lead before condemning either of them. Keeping a spare lead on the shelf means a couch that is down for a cable fault can be back in use the same day rather than waiting on a parts order.

The coiled form matters for service life. A coiled lead takes up the travel of the moving section by extending and retracting along its own axis instead of being dragged across the frame, so there is far less abrasion at the exit points and much less chance of the lead being caught as the section folds. At 0.4 m relaxed it suits the short runs between a control box mounted on the underframe and an actuator working within the same assembly.
