Arjo Sara Stedy NTA1000 Stand Aid with Seat Paddles for Semi-Sitting Transfers

The Arjo Sara Stedy is a non-powered stand and transfer aid for patients who can bear weight and rise from sitting with some support. The patient stands on the platform holding the central frame, the seat paddles fold down behind them to take their weight in a semi-sitting position, and the carer moves the unit a short distance to a bed, chair, toilet or basin.

This Sara Stedy does not have a leg spreader. The base does not open to widen around a chair or commode. Please check the images and this description carefully before purchasing to confirm this configuration suits the setting it is intended for. Once the item has shipped, the refund covers the cost of the product, and the cost of returning it is paid by the buyer.

What the Sara Stedy does well is keep the patient working. A wheelchair transfer asks nothing of the patient, and a hoist takes over the movement entirely. The Sara Stedy asks the patient to stand and hold on, which maintains leg strength and confidence, while the frame and the seat paddles make it safe for the carer to support them. Because the patient stands at the carer's height, the transfer happens face to face and at eye level, which matters for communication and dignity during toileting and personal care.

At around 20 to 22 kg it is light enough to move between rooms and to store without a dedicated space, and its safe working load of 182 kg covers a wide range of patients. It is used in hospitals, rehabilitation wards, nursing and residential homes, and community and home care.

Product Sara Stedy stand and transfer aid
Model NTA1000
Configuration Fixed base, no leg spreader

Features

  • Encourages active standing, asking the patient to rise and hold on rather than be carried, which maintains leg strength and confidence between transfers.
  • Folding seat paddles, taking the patient's weight in a semi-sitting position once they have stood, so a short transfer does not rely on the patient standing unaided throughout.
  • Eye-level transfers, with the patient standing at the carer's height, supporting communication and dignity during toileting and personal care.
  • Short-distance alternative to a wheelchair, for moves between bed, chair, toilet and basin within the same room or area.
  • Easy toileting and hygiene access, since the patient is standing supported and clothing can be managed during the transfer.
  • Reduces carer strain, replacing a manual lift or an unsupported stand with a frame that takes the load.
  • 182 kg safe working load, accommodating a wide range of patients.
  • Non-powered, so there is no battery, no charger and nothing to fail electrically.
  • Light at around 20 to 22 kg, easy to move between rooms and to store.

Important notice

Patient selection. The Sara Stedy is for patients who can bear weight through their legs, hold the frame and rise from sitting with support. It is not suitable for a patient who cannot stand, cannot hold on, or cannot follow simple instruction, and for them a hoist is the appropriate equipment. It is a transfer aid for short distances, not a walking aid and not a means of transporting a patient between rooms or along corridors. Selection is a clinical decision recorded in the patient's moving and handling assessment.

Safe use. The patient stands on the platform with both feet placed before the seat paddles are lowered, and the paddles are raised only once the patient is standing securely. Apply the brakes before the patient stands or sits, and whenever the unit is stationary. Move the Sara Stedy slowly on level floors and avoid thresholds, slopes and uneven surfaces with a patient on board. Do not exceed the safe working load of 182 kg, and read the figure on this unit's own label before use.

Condition and inspection. This unit is pre-owned and supplied without a service history. Check the frame, platform, seat paddles, handles, castors and brakes for damage before first use, and carry out routine inspection to the manufacturer's instructions and local policy thereafter. Duties under PUWER 1998 apply to equipment used at work. Clean between patients with a disinfectant compatible with the frame and grips.
