Frame for DreamWear CPAP Masks
£46.99
This item
The DreamWear frame is the hollow silicone body of the mask. Air arrives from the tube at the top of the head, travels down two soft channels either side of the face and meets at the cushion under the nose, which is why there is nothing across the bridge of the nose and nothing in the field of view.
This is a genuine Philips Respironics spare part, supplied on its own in small, medium or large. Any frame size works with any DreamWear cushion, so a frame can be renewed without changing the rest of the mask.

Before fitting the frame
On most masks the frame is rigid plastic and the cushion does the work. DreamWear is built the other way round: the frame is soft silicone and hollow, so it is simultaneously the structure that holds the mask on the face and the duct that carries the air. That design is what gets the tube off the face and up to the crown of the head, and it is why the mask suits people who sleep on their side or their front, or who want to read or wear glasses in bed with the mask on.
It also explains why the frame is a wearing part rather than a permanent one. Silicone in daily contact with skin oils gradually loses the slight tackiness that holds a seal, and the arms lose a little of their spring, so the mask drifts and the headgear ends up being tightened to compensate. Tightening is the wrong fix: it presses the cushion harder against the face, marks the skin and often makes the leak worse. Philips sets the renewal interval at three months for that reason, and a frame reaching that point is a cheaper answer than a whole new mask.
Two things are worth knowing before ordering. The hollow arms mean that if one side is compressed against a pillow, the air redirects through the other, so side sleeping does not interrupt therapy, but it also means a split or a crack anywhere in the frame is a leak in the air path rather than a cosmetic fault. And the frame is not a universal part: it fits the DreamWear family only. Anyone with a different Philips mask, or a mask from another manufacturer, needs that manufacturer's own frame.
