The Alvera AirLink 360 Swivel is a small rotational connector designed to reduce tubing tension and mask drag during sleep therapy. Used correctly, it contributes to a more consistent interface seal and can help minimise unintended mask displacement throughout the night. This article covers practical setup, maintenance and compatibility considerations for users and clinicians alike.
The swivel connects between the CPAP or APAP tubing and the mask elbow. It rotates through 360 degrees, allowing the tubing to reposition freely in response to movement during sleep. This reduces the mechanical pull on the interface cushion, which helps maintain the seal without the user needing to reposition the mask manually.
It is a passive component. It contains no electronics, no valve and no active mechanism. Its function depends entirely on correct placement in the circuit and on compatibility with the tubing and mask in use.
The swivel sits between the mask elbow and the main therapy tubing. It is not a replacement for the elbow or the cushion. In heated tubing setups, check manufacturer guidance on whether a swivel is compatible with the specific tubing diameter and connector profile before fitting.

Fit the mask and headgear first, following the manufacturer instructions for the specific interface in use. Once the mask is positioned and the seal is confirmed, attach the swivel to the mask elbow. Connect the therapy tubing to the free end of the swivel. Ensure both connections are fully seated. A partial connection can introduce unintended leak into the circuit.
The swivel should rotate freely after fitting. If it feels stiff or restricted, check that it is not cross-threaded or that the tubing is not exerting excessive lateral pressure on the connector.
The benefit of the swivel is reduced if the tubing is routed in a way that creates a fixed tension point close to the mask. Route tubing overhead or to the side of the pillow so that the swivel can rotate without resistance. Tubing clips and pillow attachment systems are available separately and can assist with this.
After fitting, run the device and check for audible or palpable leak at the mask-swivel junction and at the swivel-tubing junction. Most therapy devices display a leak rate on screen or in the companion app. A sustained elevated leak reading at sleep onset is worth investigating at the connections before assuming a cushion or headgear issue.
The swivel is a reusable component and requires regular cleaning. Disconnect it from the circuit before cleaning. Wash in warm water with mild detergent, rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely before reconnecting. Do not use alcohol-based cleaners, bleach or abrasive materials, as these can degrade the rotational joint and the connector surfaces.
The manufacturer instructions for the Alvera AirLink 360 Swivel take precedence over general guidance. Refer to those instructions for frequency and method. The guidance here is general and does not substitute for the product-specific documentation.
Inspect the swivel regularly for the following:
A swivel showing any of the above should be replaced. It is a consumable item and has a finite service life. Replacement intervals depend on frequency of use and cleaning, and the manufacturer guidance should be followed. Replacement swivels are available separately.
If humidification is in use, condensation can accumulate in the tubing and at the swivel junction. Rainout at the swivel can introduce moisture into the mask interface. Adjusting the humidifier setting, using heated tubing where compatible, or repositioning the tubing to allow drainage away from the mask can reduce this. Check that the swivel itself is dry before each session if condensation has been an issue.
The Alvera AirLink 360 Swivel is designed for use with Alvera-range accessories, but connector profiles vary across mask generations and tubing types. Before ordering, confirm that the swivel is compatible with your current mask elbow and tubing diameter. If you are uncertain, ask before ordering. Incompatible connectors can result in poor seating, leak or joint failure.
The swivel is sold as a standalone accessory. Headgear, cushions, tubing, mask elbows, water chambers and air filters are not included and are sold separately. If you are building a complete therapy interface, each component should be ordered and confirmed individually.
Air filters, cushions and water chambers used alongside the swivel are consumables. They are single-use or limited-reuse items and are not interchangeable across therapy sessions where cross-contamination is a concern, particularly in clinical, ward or shared-use environments. Decontamination protocols for shared equipment remain the responsibility of the operating organisation.
The Alvera AirLink 360 Swivel is a straightforward passive component that reduces tubing tension at the mask interface during nightly therapy. Correct fitting, compatible tubing and routine cleaning are the three factors that determine whether it performs as intended. It is a consumable with a finite service life and should be inspected regularly and replaced when wear is evident. Compatibility with your specific mask and tubing should be confirmed before ordering. All manufacturer instructions take precedence over the general guidance in this article.
