Alvera PureWipe CPAP Equipment is a consumable cleaning accessory used as part of routine CPAP interface maintenance. Like all consumables in a therapy setup, it has a finite effective lifespan. Knowing when to replace it, and recognising the signs that replacement is overdue, helps maintain reliable hygiene standards and protects the integrity of the wider equipment it is used to clean.
PureWipe wipes are single-use consumables designed for cleaning the mask interface, cushion, headgear and other external contact surfaces of CPAP equipment. They are used nightly by many patients to remove skin oils, moisture and residue that accumulate during use throughout the night. Consistent use supports the seal quality of the cushion and extends the serviceable life of the mask components.
Each wipe is intended for one cleaning session only. Reusing a wipe after its initial application introduces the risk of redistributing the material it has already collected across the interface surface. The single-use designation is not a commercial recommendation. It is a functional boundary that affects cleaning effectiveness.
PureWipe wipes are formulated to be compatible with silicone cushions, plastic mask frames and fabric headgear. They are not a substitute for periodic deep cleaning of the water chamber, tubing or heated tubing, which require separate cleaning protocols. Those items are not included in what PureWipe addresses.

Because PureWipe is a single-use product, the question of replacement applies at two levels: the individual wipe and the overall supply. At the individual level, the following conditions indicate the wipe should not be used or should be discarded immediately:
If a wipe feels dry on contact with the interface, leaves a residue or does not produce the expected light lather or moisture level, it should be discarded and a fresh wipe used. A wipe that has already cleaned one surface should not be refolded and applied to a second surface within the same session.
Wipes stored in direct sunlight, in high-humidity environments or at temperatures outside the manufacturer's stated range may degrade before their printed expiry date. If the storage conditions of a pack cannot be confirmed, treat the pack as suspect and check each wipe individually before use.
Nightly use means a standard pack depletes quickly. The practical sign that replenishment is due is straightforward: fewer wipes remaining than the number of nights until the next order can arrive. Waiting until the last wipe is used risks a gap in the cleaning routine, which affects interface hygiene and cushion condition over time.
Even an unopened pack of PureWipe wipes carries a use-by date. An expired pack should be replaced, not used. The formulation cannot be assumed to remain within specification after that date. This applies regardless of how well the pack was stored.
A pack that has been crushed, punctured or subjected to moisture ingress should be discarded and replaced. The integrity of the individual wipe packaging within the outer carton may have been compromised, even if the outer carton appears only partially damaged.
PureWipe is used to maintain the cushion between formal replacement intervals. The cushion itself is a separate consumable with its own replacement schedule, typically guided by the mask manufacturer. When the cushion no longer holds a consistent seal throughout the night, replacement of the cushion is indicated. Continued use of PureWipe on a worn cushion maintains surface cleanliness but cannot restore a compromised seal.
Headgear stretches with use and loses its ability to maintain consistent mask positioning. Tubing, including heated tubing, should be inspected regularly for cracks, kinks or discolouration. PureWipe addresses the external surface of these components. It does not reverse mechanical wear. When wear is apparent, the component requires replacement, not additional cleaning.
The water chamber used in humidification should be replaced according to the manufacturer's schedule, typically every six to twelve months depending on use, or earlier if mineral deposits, discolouration or physical damage are present. The air filter is a separate consumable. Replacement intervals vary by filter type. Neither item is addressed by PureWipe, and neither is included with it. Both are available separately.
Alvera PureWipe CPAP Equipment is a nightly consumable with clear, observable indicators for both individual wipe rejection and pack-level replacement. The table below summarises the key replacement triggers covered in this article.
Always defer to the manufacturer's instructions for PureWipe and for each CPAP component it is used to clean. The guidance above is general and does not override the instructions supplied with the product. If you are uncertain whether your wipes or other consumables remain fit for use, ask before ordering a replacement to confirm you are selecting the correct item for your mask and interface type.
