Renray Corus Electric Four Section Profiling Bed with Hospital Mattress, Pre-owned

The Corus is Renray Healthcare's electric profiling bed, built in Cheshire for community and care home use. It profiles in four sections, raises and lowers on powered height adjustment, tilts both ways, and carries a safe working load of 180 kg with a maximum patient weight of 150 kg. The handset locks with a key.

Renray build the Corus in two heights, and which one this is matters more than anything else on the page. The Corus 1000 drops to a platform height of 195 mm, which is a genuine low bed: paired with a falls mattress it is specified to reduce injury when a resident rolls out, because there is very little height to fall through. The Corus 2000 runs from 300 mm and is a standard height bed. Both rise to a working height for care, so the low bed does not cost the carer anything in return.

Four section profiling means the backrest raises to around 70 degrees, the knee break lifts to 17 degrees, and vascular and Fowler leg positions are available from the handset, with the calf section adjusted by hand. Tilt runs to 10.5 degrees either way, foot down as standard and head down as an option, which is the function that matters for a resident who slides down the bed and has to be repositioned.

Two details mark this out as a care home bed rather than a hospital one. The handset carries a lock-out key, so a resident who would otherwise alter the bed through the night cannot, and the carer can still use it. And in a power cut, two 9 V alkaline cells drive enough emergency function to flatten the deck and lower the bed, which is what a night carer needs when the lights go out with someone sitting up. The frame is powder coated with rounded corners, the head and foot panels carry wood effect inserts that soften the look of the bed in a bedroom, and it rolls on four 100 mm braked castors over a slatted platform. Supplied pre-owned with its handset, both panels and a hospital mattress, which is selected at the point of order as either foam or an alternating air system.

Features

  • Four section profiling with powered height adjustment.
  • Backrest raising to around 70 degrees and knee break to 17 degrees.
  • Vascular and Fowler leg positions from the handset, with the calf section adjusted by hand.
  • Tilt to 10.5 degrees, foot down as standard and head down as an option.
  • Handset with a lock-out key, so a resident cannot alter the bed while the carer still can.
  • Emergency lowering on two 9 V alkaline cells, enough to flatten the deck and lower the bed in a power cut.
  • Safe working load of 180 kg including the mattress and anything fitted to the bed.
  • Integral 115 mm bed extension with a mattress retainer, for a taller resident.
  • Four 100 mm castors, each with a foot operated brake.
  • Powder coated frame with rounded corners, wiping down cleanly.
  • Removable head and foot panels with wood effect inserts, which soften the look of the bed in a bedroom.
  • Slatted platform, lighter than a solid deck and allowing air through the mattress.
  • Hospital mattress included, chosen at order as foam for general nursing or an alternating air system for pressure redistribution.
  • Mattress matched to the bed, so the depth is known before side rails are specified.
  • Built in the United Kingdom by Renray Healthcare.
  • Specified to IEC 60601-2-52, the standard for medical beds.

Points to note before ordering

  • Low height or standard height is the question to settle first. The Corus 1000 drops to 195 mm at the platform and is a falls prevention bed; the Corus 2000 starts at 300 mm and is a standard height bed. They look similar and the model number is what tells them apart. Elarix Medical reads the model from the bed and states it in writing before dispatch, with the measured height range.
  • The mattress choice decides which side rail fits. Renray make two rail heights for this bed: the standard rail for mattresses up to about 150 mm deep, and the extra height rail for mattresses up to about 250 mm. An alternating air system sits deeper than foam, so it generally calls for the extra height rail. Fitting a deeper mattress under a standard rail lowers the effective rail height and takes the combination outside the dimensional limits in BS EN 60601-2-52 and MHRA bed rails guidance. Gaps are never packed out with bedding, which compresses. Rails are not included and are quoted against the mattress chosen.
  • Safe working load includes everything on the bed. The 180 kg figure covers the mattress and every fitted accessory, so the maximum patient weight is 150 kg. A lifting pole, a grab handle and a deep mattress all come out of that allowance.
  • Choose the mattress at the point of order. A hospital mattress is included and is supplied either as foam or as an alternating air system with its pump. Foam suits general nursing. An alternating system is for a resident at raised risk of pressure damage and sits deeper on the platform. Where this is the low height Corus 1000 used as a falls bed, a falls mattress is the surface that completes the arrangement and is quoted separately.
  • Pre-owned condition and commissioning. Marks to the frame and panels consistent with service use. Decontamination to local policy, electrical safety testing and a function check of every actuator, the castor brakes, the handset lock and the emergency lowering are carried out before use. The emergency cells are changed at least yearly and are confirmed before dispatch. Elarix Medical photographs the actual bed on request.
