The ALVERA AirStrap™ Magnetic Headgear Clips are a small but practical component designed to simplify how CPAP mask headgear is fitted and removed each night. This article explains what they are, how they work, who they suit and what to be aware of before ordering.
These clips are attachment points that use magnets to connect the headgear straps to the CPAP mask frame. Instead of threading straps through loops or pressing plastic buckles together in the dark, the wearer brings the two magnetic surfaces close to each other and they align and lock without precise hand positioning.
The design reduces the number of deliberate manual steps needed at sleep onset and again on waking, which matters for anyone who removes or reseats the mask during the night.
The clips form part of the interface between the headgear and the mask body. They are not part of the cushion, the frame or the tubing. In a complete CPAP setup the clips sit at the junction where the strap meets the mask, typically at the side arms or cheek connectors depending on mask style.
The headgear, cushion, frame, tubing and humidifier water chamber are all separate components. None of those items are included with the clips alone. Check compatibility before ordering.
Standard headgear clips require the user to locate two small plastic parts by touch and press them together with sufficient force to engage. Magnetic clips self-locate within a short range, so the alignment step is largely automatic. This is the practical difference, not a therapeutic claim.

The ALVERA AirStrap™ Magnetic Headgear Clips are part of the Alvera own-brand accessory range and are intended for use with compatible Alvera mask headgear. Compatibility with third-party mask frames or headgear from other manufacturers is not guaranteed. If you are unsure whether these clips will fit your existing setup, ask before ordering.
CPAP therapy is prescribed. The mask interface, including headgear and attachment clips, is selected as part of that prescription pathway. Changing any component of the interface can affect seal, comfort and compliance. Discuss changes to your interface with your prescribing clinician or sleep service before substituting components.
Headgear clips are consumable items. Magnetic strength, clip body integrity and strap attachment points degrade with nightly use, cleaning cycles and general handling. Replacement at the interval recommended by the manufacturer maintains consistent performance throughout the night. The manufacturer instructions take precedence over any general guidance given here.
This section applies to the wearer, any bed partner sleeping in close proximity and anyone handling the mask or clips. The magnets in these clips can interact with implanted or worn medical devices.
Do not use magnetic headgear clips if you or anyone in close proximity has any of the following, without first consulting the relevant clinician:
This is not an exhaustive list. If there is any doubt, consult a qualified clinician before use.
Keep magnetic clips away from credit cards, access fobs, magnetic storage media and other magnetically sensitive items. Store the mask with clips attached in the carry case or pouch supplied with your mask, away from other electronics.
The operating organisation, prescribing clinician or individual user is responsible for confirming that magnetic components are safe for the intended wearer before use. Elarix Medical does not carry out a clinical suitability assessment on behalf of the buyer.
Clean the clips as directed by the manufacturer. In general, headgear components are wiped with a damp cloth using mild soap, rinsed and allowed to air dry away from direct sunlight. Do not submerge magnetic clips unless the manufacturer instructions confirm this is safe. Do not use alcohol-based wipes, bleach or abrasive materials on the clip body or magnet surfaces.
Before fitting the mask each night, check the clips for:
Do not use a clip that is cracked, deformed or no longer holding securely. Replace it before the next therapy session.
Manufacturer guidance on replacement interval takes precedence. As a general reference point, headgear and associated clips are typically replaced every six months as part of routine consumable renewal, or sooner if wear or reduced function is observed. Your CPAP supplier or sleep service can advise on the replacement schedule that applies to your prescription.
The ALVERA AirStrap™ Magnetic Headgear Clips are a consumable headgear accessory that replaces conventional plastic buckles with a magnetic connection, reducing the manual effort needed to fit and remove a CPAP mask. They are sold as a standalone accessory. Headgear, cushion, mask frame, tubing and other interface components are not included.
If you have questions about compatibility or suitability that are not answered here, ask before ordering.
