ResMed Standard CPAP Tubing is the flexible corrugated hose that connects a CPAP or APAP device to a mask interface. It is a consumable component, replaced on a schedule rather than serviced. Understanding what it does, what it is made of and when to replace it helps clinicians and informed patients make straightforward purchasing decisions.
The tubing carries pressurised air from the device outlet to the mask cushion throughout the night. Without an intact, well-fitted tube, therapy pressure cannot be maintained at the level prescribed. The tube is the mechanical link between the blower unit and the patient interface, and its internal diameter directly affects how pressure is delivered.
Standard tubing contains no heating element. It is a passive conduit. Heated tubing, such as the ResMed ClimateLineAir, uses an integrated heating wire to warm the air column and reduce rainout. Standard tubing relies on the device humidifier and ambient temperature to manage moisture. In cooler rooms or during longer sleep sessions, condensation inside standard tubing is more likely than with a heated alternative.
ResMed standard tubing uses a 22 mm outside-diameter cuff at each end, which is a widely used connector size across the ResMed AirSense and AirStart ranges. Compatibility should be confirmed against the specific device model before ordering. Not all third-party tubing sold as 22 mm fits every ResMed port without adaptation.

Standard ResMed CPAP tubing is typically 1.8 metres in length, which gives most users adequate reach from a bedside device to a mask worn in a range of sleeping positions. The tubing is lightweight and flexible enough to coil without kinking under normal use.
Standard tubing does not include a water chamber, air filter, heated wire or data recording function. These components are part of the device or are available separately. The tubing does not affect compliance data recorded by the device.
ResMed and most clinical protocols recommend replacing standard CPAP tubing every three to six months under nightly use. The tube should be replaced immediately if any crack, hole, discolouration or persistent odour is found. Manufacturer instructions take precedence over general guidance.
Cleaning is straightforward. The standard approach is to wash the tube in warm water with a mild detergent, rinse thoroughly and hang to air dry away from direct sunlight. Submerging the full length allows the interior corrugations to be flushed. The tube should be fully dry before reconnecting to the humidifier and device, to limit rainout and limit any residue entering the circuit.
Corrugated tubing retains moisture in its folds. Over time, the interior surface can discolour or develop a film that is not removed by routine washing. At that point, replacement is the appropriate step. Reprocessing with chemical agents not approved by ResMed may degrade the tubing material and is not recommended.
CPAP tubing is a consumable. Pre-owned tubing presents hygiene and integrity concerns that are not straightforward to resolve through inspection alone. For nightly patient use, new tubing is the practical default. Pre-owned tubing may be appropriate only in specific non-patient contexts, and any such use remains the responsibility of the operating organisation.
Tubing is typically sold as a single item. The following are not included unless the listing states otherwise:
Ask before ordering if you are uncertain whether the listing includes a bundle or a complete therapy setup.
ResMed publishes part numbers for its tubing components. Confirm the part number against your device model and the relevant accessory guide before purchasing. Photographs, where provided, form part of the description and should be reviewed alongside the written specification.
ResMed Standard CPAP Tubing is a passive, non-heated conduit that connects a CPAP device to a mask interface. It is a consumable replaced on a three-to-six month cycle under nightly use, or sooner if damaged. It carries no integrated features such as heating or data capture, and it does not include any mask, device or humidifier components. Compatibility with a specific device port should be confirmed before ordering. For patient-facing use, new tubing is the appropriate choice. Manufacturer instructions govern cleaning, replacement intervals and compatibility and take precedence over any general guidance in this article.
