Joerns HPL402 Hoist Charger Kit, Control Box, Charger, Stand, Handset and Cables, New and Factory Sealed

A complete electrical set for a powered patient hoist, supplied new and still factory sealed. The Hoist Charger kit contains the Joerns control box for the HPL402, part 400-3005, with its integrated Linak HM charger, the charger stand and mounting hardware, a Linak hand control and the connecting cables.

This is what a service department needs to bring a mechanically sound but electrically dead lift back into use in a single order, rather than diagnosing one part at a time and waiting on separate deliveries.

Supplied factory sealed

  • The box has not been opened. Contents are described from the manufacturer's specification for this kit and from the carton label, not from inspection of the parts themselves.
  • Nothing has been powered up or bench tested, because doing so would mean breaking the seal.
  • The kit is sold sealed and is dispatched sealed. Details printed on the carton label can be confirmed on request, and the seal is not broken to check anything inside.

Confirm fitment, then fit and examine

  • Check three things against the lift before ordering: that it is an HPL402, that the handset socket on the control box takes a round 8 pin plug, and whether the base opens by power or by hand. This handset carries leg spread buttons, which are inert on a lift with a hand operated base.
  • These parts are fitted by a person competent to work on powered patient lifts, following the manufacturer's service documentation.
  • Lifting equipment used at work to lift people is thoroughly examined by a competent person at least every six months under LOLER 1998, and after any repair that affects safety. A lift that has had its control box or handset changed is examined before it lifts a person again.
  • Isolate the battery before removing or fitting the control box, and inspect the actuator and handset leads while the covers are off.
  • Dispose of any old battery through a battery recycling route rather than general waste.

Why a whole electrical set rather than one part

A powered floor hoist is a simple electrical system with a small number of parts that end its working life: the actuator lifts, the control box distributes power and reads the handset, the battery supplies it, and the handset is what the carer actually touches. Of those, the handset is the one that gets dropped, hung on its lead and cleaned with whatever is to hand, so it fails most often. The control box is the one that fails without warning. Both produce the same symptom, a lift that runs in one direction only or responds intermittently, which is why manufacturer fault-finding tables list them side by side as the two candidates for that fault.

That shared symptom is the argument for buying the set. Diagnosing electrically down a lift by ordering single parts means a wait, a fit, a test, and possibly the same wait again for the other part. With the control box, charger and handset in one box, the fault is resolved in a single visit and the parts left over become the shelf spares for the next lift in the building.

The economics follow the same logic. The HPL402 is mechanically simple and long lived, often twenty years into service with a sound frame and dead electrics, so the cost of this kit is set against a working chassis rather than the price of a new hoist. Keeping a familiar lift in service also avoids retraining staff on a different machine, which is a real cost that rarely appears on the quotation.

Specification limited to what is confirmed

  • Whether a 24 V battery is packed with this kit, the cables supplied and their lengths, and the plug fitted to the charger are not confirmed by inspection, since the box is sealed. Manufacturer literature for this kit lists a charger, mount, power cord and 24 V battery, and the carton label is the reference used until the seal is broken.
  • Parts specified for other markets can carry a different mains plug. Anything printed on the carton label can be confirmed before ordering.
  • The handset supplied carries leg spread controls. On a lift with a hand operated base those buttons have no function, and the handset is otherwise unaffected. Where a single channel handset is preferred for such a lift, that is a separate part number.
  • Compatibility beyond the fitment stated above is not claimed and is checked against the relevant manufacturer's parts list before ordering.

Fault finding before fitting

Lift completely dead, no sound from the actuator. Battery or charging first. Fit a known good charged battery before condemning the control box.
Runs in one direction only, or one channel intermittent. Manufacturer guidance points at the handset or the control box. Try the handset first, since it is the cheaper part and the more common failure.
Clicking from the control box, actuator does not move. Points at the actuator rather than the box, which is not part of this kit.
Battery flat within a shift. Cells at end of life, or a charger powered but not charging. The ON and CHARGE lights distinguish the two.
