Philips PageWriter TC50 Cardiograph on Stand with 10 Wire Patient Cable, Pre-owned

The PageWriter TC50 is Philips' touchscreen cardiograph, product number 860310, supplied here on its stand with a 10 wire patient cable. It works on a 10.4 inch colour touchscreen with a full alphanumeric keyboard, samples at 8,000 samples per second on every lead wire, and runs the Philips DXL algorithm. The 10 wire cable supplied takes the ten electrodes that produce a standard 12 lead recording.

What separates this machine from a recorder that simply prints a trace is what the DXL algorithm does with the signal. It carries over 600 interpretive statements with paediatric analysis built in, takes 46 morphology measurements per lead and 21 rhythm parameters, and allows the QT correction method to be configured rather than fixed. Borderline statements can be suppressed at three settings, which matters in a service that does not want a pile of equivocal reports coming back for review.

The part worth paying attention to is the acute coronary work. The TC50 produces polar ST maps in the frontal and transverse planes, carries 9 right heart and 16 posterior infarct statements, applies STEMI-CA criteria that suggest which of four probable occlusion sites is involved, and raises Critical Value highlights on four conditions needing immediate attention. For an emergency department, a chest pain pathway or an ambulance service, a machine that flags a critical finding at the point of recording rather than at the point of review is doing something a basic cardiograph cannot.

LeadCheck is the other feature that earns its keep daily: it detects nineteen types of lead reversal, which is the single commonest technical cause of a misread ECG. Alongside that, full disclosure holds ten minutes of every lead with a complete report available from any ten second segment, 200 recordings are stored internally with another 200 on a USB device, and reports export in XML at full fidelity over Ethernet or wireless. Supplied pre-owned on its stand.

Features

  • Critical Value highlights raised on four conditions needing immediate attention, at the point of recording.
  • STEMI-CA criteria suggesting which of four probable occlusion sites is involved.
  • Polar ST maps in the frontal and transverse planes.
  • Nine right heart statements and sixteen posterior infarct statements.
  • LeadCheck detecting nineteen types of lead reversal, the commonest technical cause of a misread ECG.
  • DXL algorithm with over 600 interpretive statements and paediatric analysis built in.
  • Forty six morphology measurements per lead and twenty one rhythm parameters.
  • Configurable QT correction and borderline statement suppression at three settings.
  • Sampling at 8,000 samples per second on every lead wire, with 5 microvolt resolution at the patient module.
  • Mains filtering at 50 or 60 Hz, artifact rejection and baseline wander correction applied before presentation.
  • Full disclosure holding ten minutes of every lead, with a complete report from any ten second segment.
  • Report formats in 3 by 4, 6 by 2 and 12 by 1, in standard and Cabrera presentation.
  • 10.4 inch colour touchscreen with a 65 key alphanumeric keyboard.
  • Digital array thermal printer at 200 by 500 dots per inch, with full report preview before printing.
  • 200 recordings stored internally and another 200 on a USB device.
  • Export in XML at full fidelity, over 10/100 Ethernet or wireless.
  • Lithium ion battery giving around 30 recordings or 30 minutes of continuous rhythm per charge.
  • Mobile on its stand, with the patient cable supplied.

Points to note before ordering

  • Ten wires give twelve leads, not sixteen. The TC50 is capable of up to 16 leads, and Philips market the DXL algorithm on that basis, but the extra leads V3R, V4R, V5R, V7, V8 and V9 call for the extended lead option and additional electrodes. The cable supplied here is the standard 10 wire set, which produces a conventional 12 lead recording. Elarix Medical confirms in writing which options are enabled on this unit.
  • Factory options vary unit to unit. Wireless, modem, barcode reader, magnetic and smart card readers, the second battery and the extended lead set were all ordered separately when new, so two TC50s can differ considerably. Elarix Medical reads the fitted options from the unit and states them before dispatch rather than listing the whole catalogue.
  • Electrodes and paper are the running cost. The patient cable is supplied, but disposable electrodes, reusable limb clamps and chest electrodes, and thermal paper are consumables ordered as ongoing stock. Elarix Medical confirms what accompanies this unit and quotes a starting set.
  • Battery condition on a pre-owned cardiograph. The lithium pack is the wear part and a machine on a stand that will not run from its battery has lost the point of being on a stand. Elarix Medical confirms the pack charges and holds, states whether a second pack is fitted, and quotes a fresh one where the fitted pack has aged.
  • Pre-owned condition and commissioning. Marks consistent with clinical use. To be decontaminated to local policy, electrically safety tested, and function checked with a patient simulator so that lead integrity, gain and paper speed are verified, before clinical use. Elarix Medical photographs the actual unit on request.
