SystemRoMedic QuickMove Transfer and Stand Aid, 170 kg Safe Working Load

The QuickMove is an active transfer and stand aid from SystemRoMedic, the patient handling range built by Handicare and now carried by Direct Healthcare Group. It sits between a transfer board and a full standing hoist. The patient does the standing, pulling on the handgrips with the shins braced against the kneepad, and the carer steers rather than lifts. That makes it suited to a person who has arm strength and can take weight through the legs but has lost the balance and the lower limb power to rise and pivot unaided.

The frame is powder coated steel on four castors, the rear pair braked, with a padded buttock support and a padded kneepad. The legs open and close on a foot pedal, so the base can be narrowed to clear a doorway and widened to straddle a wheelchair, a commode or a toilet pedestal without the carer stooping to move anything by hand. That single adjustment is what makes the difference in a domestic bathroom, where a fixed base aid has to stop short of the furniture and the patient is left shuffling the last part of the transfer.

Both contact points adjust to the person rather than the reverse. The kneepad moves for height and depth and tilts, which matters where knee flexion is limited or where one leg is longer in the plaster. The seat takes two depth positions, and a crossbar adjustment changes the angle of the seat and the handgrips together, so the pull line can be set to suit a patient who leads with the shoulders against one who leads with the hips. Set correctly, the device follows the natural arc of standing instead of hauling the patient vertically.

Typical use is the short transfer: bed to chair, chair to wheelchair, wheelchair to toilet. Handicare state the device is not built for long distance transport and is for flat floors only, so it belongs on a ward bay, in a care home bedroom or in an adapted bathroom rather than along corridors. Where a patient needs torso or side support to stay upright during the move, the BackSupport accessory and the SupportStraps are made for the frame.

Features

  • Foot pedal leg spread, so the base narrows to pass a doorway and widens to straddle a wheelchair, commode or toilet without the carer bending to adjust it by hand.
  • Kneepad adjustable for height and depth and tiltable, which allows the shin brace to be set to the patient rather than the patient positioned to the frame.
  • Padded buttock support with two manually set depth positions.
  • Crossbar angle adjustment, which moves the seat and the handgrip angle together to change the line the patient pulls along when standing.
  • Four castors with brakes on the rear pair, held while the patient stands and released for the move.
  • Powder coated steel frame, wipe clean and suited to repeat decontamination between patients.
  • Safe working load of 170 kg, with a unit weight of 35 kg.
  • Takes the SystemRoMedic BackSupport and SupportStraps where torso or side support is needed during the transfer.

Points to note before ordering

  • Active aid, not a hoist. Handicare specify that the patient must be able to take weight through the legs, grasp the handles, hold balance and follow instructions. A fully dependent patient needs a sling or standing hoist instead.
  • Short transfers on flat floors. Bed to chair, chair to wheelchair, wheelchair to toilet. The patient is not to be left unattended during a transfer.
  • Yearly inspection. Handicare require inspection and servicing by a qualified technician at least once a year.
  • Pre-owned condition. Cleaned and function checked, with marks to the coating and wear to the pads and castors consistent with service use. Elarix Medical will photograph the actual unit on request.
