The Linet Multicare is a powered acute care hospital bed designed for use in ward, high-dependency and rehabilitation settings. It combines motorised profiling, integrated side rails and an electronic hand controller into a single platform intended to support clinical workflows and patient positioning needs. This article explains what the bed is, how its main functions work and what a buyer should check before ordering.
The Linet Multicare is a full-electric profiling bed built for acute hospital use. It is not a domestic or care-home bed. The frame, mattress platform and drive system are rated for continuous clinical use in a ward or department environment. The bed is typically found in NHS trusts, private hospitals and rehabilitation units.
The hand controller is the primary interface between the user and the bed's motorised functions. It connects to the bed via a cable and allows the patient or clinician to adjust backrest angle, knee break position, overall bed height and, on some configurations, Trendelenburg and reverse-Trendelenburg tilt. Controller, the unit supplied with the bed and an essential functional component, not an optional accessory. A bed dispatched without a working controller is not ready for clinical use.

The backrest motor raises the head end of the mattress platform from flat to a near-upright position. This supports patient comfort and is commonly used to facilitate feeding, respiratory positioning and clinical assessment. The knee break motor lifts the lower leg section independently, which helps limit the patient sliding down the bed when the backrest is raised. Both movements are controlled through the hand controller in incremental steps.
The bed raises and lowers the entire mattress platform between a low position, typically around 30 cm from the floor, and a working height suited to nursing tasks. Low position supports patient safety when exiting the bed. Working height reduces clinical staff bending during care procedures. Height is adjusted using a dedicated button on the hand controller or the nursing panel.
On equipped configurations, the entire platform tilts head-down or head-up while remaining flat. These positions are used for specific clinical procedures. Not all Multicare variants include this function: check the specification of the specific unit before ordering if this function is required.
When the bed is listed as complete, a buyer should expect the frame, side rails, castors and hand controller as standard. The nursing control panel is integrated and is not a separate item. Photographs form part of the description and should be reviewed carefully to confirm what is present.
Pre-owned Linet Multicare beds are cleaned and inspected before dispatch. Function testing covers motor operation, controller response and rail mechanism. Cosmetic wear, including scratches, scuffs and faded upholstery on rails, is expected on used ward equipment. Any known faults or non-functional features are stated in the listing. A full engineer service and calibration is not included unless the listing states this explicitly.
A powered hospital bed used in a clinical setting is subject to PUWER 1998 (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations). Organisations using the bed are responsible for ensuring it is maintained in a safe condition and that staff are trained in its use. If the bed incorporates a patient-lifting function or is used in conjunction with a hoist system, LOLER 1998 (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) obligations apply to any integrated lifting element. These obligations rest with the operating organisation, not with the supplier.
Integrated side rails present a recognised entrapment risk. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has published guidance on bed rail entrapment zones. The operating organisation is responsible for completing a bed rail risk assessment for each patient before rails are used. This is not carried out or supplied by the seller.
The Linet Multicare has a published safe working load. This figure must not be exceeded. The operating organisation is responsible for checking patient weight against the bed's rated capacity. Ask before ordering if the safe working load of the specific unit is not stated in the listing.
Hospital beds are large and heavy items. Measure every access point, including doorways, corridors and lift dimensions, before the bed is dispatched. The bed is typically supplied fully assembled. Two people are required to receive it. Ground-floor delivery is standard unless otherwise agreed in advance.
The Linet Multicare has been produced across several generations, and parts are not always interchangeable between versions. If a replacement controller, side rail or motor is needed, the model variant and serial number must be confirmed. Ask before ordering if compatibility of a specific part is uncertain.
All pre-owned clinical equipment requires decontamination before use on a patient. The operating organisation is responsible for applying its own decontamination protocol in accordance with local infection control policy. The in-house cleaning carried out before dispatch does not replace this step.
The Linet Multicare Hospital Bed with Controller is a full-electric profiling bed suited to acute ward and rehabilitation use. Its hand controller operates backrest, knee break and height adjustment as a minimum, with Trendelenburg functions available on specific variants. Pre-owned units are cleaned, inspected and function tested before dispatch, but a mattress, nurse call cable and any bariatric kit are sold separately and must be confirmed before ordering. PUWER compliance, bed rail risk assessment and patient decontamination protocol remain the responsibility of the operating organisation. Photographs form part of the description: review them alongside the listing text before purchasing.
