Alerta MoveAssist 200 Stand Aid, 200 kg Safe Working Load, Pre-owned

The Alerta MoveAssist 200 is an active transfer aid, reference ALT-ST200. The patient grips the crossbar and pulls themselves upright while the carer steers, so the device assists a transfer rather than performing a lift. At 200 kg it carries one of the higher working loads in the non-powered stand aid class, which is what puts it in bariatric use where a 150 kg or 170 kg frame runs out of capacity.

The split seat is what sets this one apart from a plain standing frame. The two padded seat halves swing out of the way so the patient can stand up and step into the unit, then the carer flips them back into place behind them, giving a seat for the journey. On a frame with a fixed seat the patient has to be manoeuvred around it. On a hoist they are suspended. Here they stand, sit on a proper seat, and are wheeled, which is a very different experience for someone who can take their own weight but cannot walk the distance.

That makes it suited to the transfers care homes and domestic settings do all day: bed to chair, chair to wheelchair, wheelchair to commode, and room to room. The legs adjust to clear furniture, so the base can be brought in close around a chair or a commode rather than stopping short of it, and the unit can be wheeled up to a toilet. Sling hooks are fitted for a support sling where a patient needs reassurance of being held during the move.

Physically it stands 110 cm high with a 68 cm base closed and 94 cm internal clearance with the legs open, a 51 cm seat at 67.8 cm from the floor, and brakes on the rear castors which are set while the patient stands and released for the move. Elarix Medical confirms the condition of the seat pads, the crossbar grips and the castors in writing before dispatch.

Points to note before ordering

Active aid, not a hoist. The patient must be able to take weight through the legs, hold balance while standing and grip the crossbar. A patient who cannot weight bear needs a standing hoist or a sling hoist instead, and suitability is a clinical decision recorded in a moving and handling assessment.
Not the Alerta Stand 200 Powerlifter. The names are close but these are different products. The MoveAssist 200 is manual. The Stand 200 Powerlifter is a powered stand aid with an actuator, and it is a separate item.
Short transfers. Bed to chair, chair to wheelchair, wheelchair to commode and room to room, on flat floors, with the patient not left unattended during a transfer.
Inspection and training. In a workplace setting the operator is responsible for inspection, maintenance and operator training under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, and for the assessment under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.
Pre-owned condition. Marks to the frame and wear to the seat pads, crossbar grips and castor treads consistent with service use. Elarix Medical will photograph the actual unit on request.
