ResMed AirMini AutoSet Travel CPAP Bundle with N20 Nasal Mask

The ResMed AirMini AutoSet is the smallest CPAP machine on the market, roughly the size of a glasses case at 299 g, and it exists to solve one problem: therapy that survives travel. A full size machine means a second bag, a hunt for a socket behind a hotel bed, and a decision every trip about whether to bother. The AirMini removes that decision. It fits in hand luggage, it runs the same AutoSet and AutoSet for Her algorithms found on bedside machines, and waterless humidification means no water chamber to fill, drain or spill in transit. This bundle pairs it with an N20 nasal mask, the N20 setup kit, and both HumidX cartridges. The N20 is a full nasal cushion that seals around the nose rather than in the nostrils, which suits wearers who find pillows uncomfortable at higher pressures, who get nasal soreness from in-nostril seals, or who simply prefer a cushion that sits on the face. It is the middle ground between pillows and a full face mask.

Mask setup kits are not interchangeable. The AirMini uses proprietary tubing rather than a standard hose, and every mask family needs its own setup kit and its own humidification cartridge. The N20 kit supplied here works with N20 masks only. It will not connect a P10, N30, F20 or F30 mask, and those masks each require a different kit. If the mask in use changes, the setup kit has to change with it.
Cushion size. Nasal masks in this family are supplied in more than one cushion size, and the size fitted determines whether the mask seals. Confirm the cushion size before ordering where a particular size is needed, and note that a size that fits in one mask family does not carry across to another. Spare cushions in other sizes are available separately.
Before first use. Therapy pressure and comfort settings should be set by the sleep service responsible for the individual's care, and are entered through the app rather than on the device. Fit the mask and run a night at home before travelling, so any fit or comfort problem is solved somewhere it can be fixed. Follow the setup instructions supplied with the device and the mask.
Choosing between the two cartridges. HumidX is the standard cartridge. HumidX Plus gives higher output and suits drier conditions, such as an air conditioned hotel room, a cold dry climate or an aircraft cabin. Both are supplied here so the level can be matched to the trip. Fit one at a time, and if the air still feels dry with HumidX Plus in place, the environment rather than the cartridge is usually the limit.

Why the AirMini works as a travel machine

Three design decisions make the difference, and they are all trade-offs the machine makes deliberately.

No water chamber. Humidification comes from a heat and moisture exchange cartridge that captures moisture from exhaled breath and returns it on the next inhalation. No water, no power draw for a heater, no chamber to empty before a flight, and nothing to spill in a bag. The cartridge is a consumable and needs renewing on a schedule.

No screen. The device has two buttons, on and off plus Bluetooth, and everything else happens in the app: pressure comfort settings, ramp, mask fit check and therapy data. That removes the display, its housing and its power draw, which is a meaningful share of a bedside machine's bulk. It also means the phone is part of the setup rather than an optional extra.

Proprietary narrow tubing. A 15 mm slimline tube and a mask-specific adapter replace the standard 22 mm hose. That is what allows the machine to be this small, and it is also why the setup kit matters so much: the circuit only works as a matched set.

Key Features

  • 299 g and palm sized - roughly the footprint of a glasses case, so it travels in hand luggage rather than needing its own bag
  • AutoSet and AutoSet for Her algorithms - the same automatic pressure algorithms used on bedside machines, switchable in the app
  • Fixed pressure mode - available alongside the two automatic modes for wearers on a set pressure
  • Waterless HumidX humidification - heat and moisture exchange, no water and no power required, so nothing to fill or drain in transit
  • Auto Start and Auto Stop - therapy begins when the mask is put on and stops when it is removed
  • App control and therapy data - settings, comfort options, mask fit check and nightly reports on a phone over Bluetooth, with clinician access through AirView
  • Approved for in-flight use - usable on board aircraft, subject to the airline's own procedure, which is worth confirming before a long haul flight
  • Two button operation - power and Bluetooth, with everything else handled in the app
  • N20 nasal mask included - a cushion that seals around the nose rather than in the nostrils, which many wearers find more comfortable at higher pressures
  • Two humidification cartridges - standard and higher output, so the level can be matched to a dry hotel room or a humid climate
It is a travel machine, not a substitute for a bedside machine. The AirMini is designed for travel and occasional use rather than as a primary machine, and it runs noticeably louder than a full size CPAP because there is less housing to absorb sound. Anyone sensitive to noise, or sharing a small room, should expect a difference. Humidification is also more limited than a heated water chamber, which matters most in dry or air conditioned rooms.

Care and Renewal

  • Mask cushion - clean daily following the instructions supplied with the mask, and renew when the silicone softens, clouds or loses its shape
  • Headgear - hand wash weekly and air dry, checking for stretched straps
  • Tubing - wash weekly in warm soapy water, rinse and hang to dry away from direct sunlight
  • HumidX and HumidX Plus cartridges - consumables with a limited service life, renewed on the schedule in the instructions and sooner if performance drops. Use one cartridge at a time, not both together
  • Machine filter - fit a fresh filter at the stated interval, or sooner if visibly soiled
  • Device - wipe with a damp cloth, disconnected from the mains, and never immerse it

The above is general guidance for a single user. The instructions supplied with the device and the mask take precedence.
