Invacare Reliant 350 Stand Assist Patient Lift with Battery and Hand Controller, Pre-owned
The Reliant 350 is Invacare's battery powered stand assist lift, carried in the United Kingdom as the RPS350-1E. It raises a patient from sitting to standing and moves them between seated surfaces, with a safe working load of 159 kg, or 25 stone, including the sling. It is supplied here with its battery and hand controller.
A stand assist is a different machine from a sling hoist and suits a different patient, which is worth being plain about before anything else. Invacare state that this lift is for transferring a person between seated surfaces, bed to wheelchair or chair to commode, and that it is not a transport device. It works by letting the patient take part in the transfer: they need enough trunk control to stay upright, enough strength to bear some weight through their legs, and the ability to hold the grips. A patient who cannot do those things needs a full sling hoist, not this.
Where a patient can do them, a stand aid is the better choice, and not only on cost. It takes less time than a full sling transfer, it keeps the patient upright and weight bearing rather than suspended, and it leaves the buttocks clear so that continence care and clothing can be dealt with during the transfer rather than as a separate handling job. For a care home doing the same transfer four or five times a day with one resident, that is a meaningful reduction in handling.
The mechanics are straightforward. The sling bar runs from 102 cm to 168 cm at the hook-up point. The base opens from 66 cm to 94 cm to clear a wheelchair or an armchair, with 11.5 cm of clearance underneath for castor bases. The whole lift stands 125 cm high, is 99 cm long and 65.5 cm wide, weighs 49 kg, and rolls on 8 cm front and 13 cm rear castors. The hand control raises, lowers and opens the legs; there is a red emergency stop on the control box and both electric and mechanical emergency lowering. Supplied pre-owned.

Points to note before ordering
- A stand assist is not a hoist, and the patient has to be suitable for it. Invacare specify this lift for transfers between seated surfaces and state that it is not a transport device. The patient needs trunk control, some weight bearing through the legs and the ability to hold the grips. Where those are absent, a full sling hoist is the correct equipment and Elarix Medical quotes those separately. This is a clinical assessment, not a purchasing preference.
- A thorough examination is required before it lifts anyone. Equipment that lifts people falls under LOLER 1998, which calls for examination by a competent person at least every six months, and Invacare's own manual points to the same six monthly interval. That examination is not included in this sale. Elarix Medical supplies the lift electrically safety tested and function checked, and the statutory examination is arranged by the receiving organisation or quoted separately.
- The charger is the part to confirm. The United Kingdom RPS350-1E uses a wall mounted charger rather than a lead into the control box, and a stand aid with a battery and no charger stops working as soon as the pack is flat. Elarix Medical confirms in writing whether the charger is present, states the battery condition, and supplies a matching United Kingdom charger where it is absent.
- Slings are not included and are specific to this machine. It takes a stand assist or transfer stand assist sling, which is a different design from a full body sling and is not interchangeable with one. Slings are also sized and assessed against the individual, not just the lift.
- Pre-owned condition. Marks consistent with service use. Castors, mast, lift arms, knee pad, footplate, hand control, emergency stop and emergency lowering are checked and their state stated in writing, and Elarix Medical photographs the actual lift on request. Decontamination to local policy before use.
